Hello again, friends.

I'm in a pickle. Here's what the situation boils down to.

I'm in a guild of friends. I've been playing with them for a couple years; they've been playing together even longer. About 3 - 4 months prior to LK, they all either left WoW or went to WAR, swearing WoW off altogether. I also left WoW for a little while, solely for personal reasons.

Anyway, when LK was getting within a couple of weeks, I decided to buckle down and start playing again. I came back to the game, leveled my two toons, started hitting raids.

A few weeks ago, a swarm of them came back. They all convinced me to take over raid leadership and I was the main man when it came to getting them who they needed rep for, etc.

Well, a good portion of them hit 80. We've raided the "easier" of the two raids (Sarth + 0 and Archavon) and had relative success. However, here's where my problems lie:

1.) Some of them won't spend the gold for the appropriate enchants.

2.) Most of them won't look outside of their own narrow minds to find a proper spec.

3.) They constantly ramble and babble on vent when I am attempting to explain something.

4.) I have the common sense to know that, unless an inner discipline miracle occurs on their behalf, anything beyond what we are currently doing will be next to impossible. They ignore my strat/vid postings on our guild website, they refuse to give me proper rank in the guild (while I am leading all raids and doing all the work required, I am still at the second to lowest rank causing me to get little to no respect in said raids).

That being said, here's what I want to know...

Is it time for me to take my sword and shield and move on, or should I keep busting ass to try and whip them into shape?

Thanks for any and all input, and all the best, K

Have you talked to the GM about any of this?

Your the raid leader, why not bench those that do not have the enchants and specs needed. (or that don't know how to stfu in vent)

Sounds to me like your guild has a severe case of casualitis.

The GM is a three-headed monster. There are three separate GM's; one created the guild and is on again, off again with WoW, one is afraid of confrontation so just caves and prevents officers from doing anything but having a title, and one was just a decoration GM while the other two were playing WAR. I've talked to all three GM's. Decoration GM agrees that we need to change things, but he has no pull anymore. Scaredy cat GM is the primary culprit of chattyness and not signing posts when I ask for it. Old man GM just doesn't care enough. Yet, they ask me to put together raids?

My guild is certainly a casual guild. Personally, casual is too nice of a title for it. It's more friends and family, with the idea that they can strut into a raid and do something. Wrong.

We all don't have a lot of time to be anything but casual, but even then, there has to be ground rules laid out. The GM's and all officer sans 1 have been completely non-helpful in all of the work that goes into raid leading. It's been frustrating from a raid leader's POV.

plain and simple, yes. You're playing a game. It doesn't seem fun to you at the moment. Eff what other people think. If you're putting in the effort to learn OTHER PEOPLE'S classes/specs then you've already gone farther than a lot of other leaders.

You may not get the same role in another guild but you will atleast get some respect and more importantly, fun somewhere else.

Sounds like your friends want all the fun and none of the responsiblities that come along with raiding. No matter how 'casual' a guild is, there are still minimums that need to be met to be successful in raiding, especially for the later content if that's your goal.

I suggest you confront the whole guild about your issue and the current problem you (and perhaps the guild) are having. Make a bulletin point of each problem and offer your thoughts on how to overcome them and even ask for their suggestions.

If your guild doesn't respond or disrespects your thoughts on the matter and continue to make you do more than your fair share of work, I say pack up and find a guild who is willing to pull their own weight.

If the guild wont respond to the person who is taking them through the content, then I would pick up and leave. If you're capable, the right guild will find you, and vice-versa.

    Krazen,

Understand, that as a leader, your raiders, in large part are affected by there leadership. Now it sounds to me, that alot of your problems lie with a bad chain of command.

    1. You have 3 guild leaders, this is never a good thing, there needs to be one defined person that is the figurehead of the guild.

    2. Of the 3 leaders, none of them seem to set a proper example to your raiders of what is acceptable conduct, based on what you describe. Leaders, by there very definition need to lead, and lead from the front.

    3. Does your guild have a clearly defined set of goals that is posted, and required reading for new recruits? If it doesn't it should. Discipline is the difference between a true Raid Guild and a Casual guild. You obtain well disciplined members by setting standards and holding your members accountable to them.

    4. If the leader(s) are not holding them selfs to the standards of the guild, how can you expect the members to follow suit. From the sound of it, your guild leadership is poor, and therefor the quality of your members will be as well.

PM me if you have any specific questions on leadership, Im in the military and its my bread and butter, I am also a guild MT in a 100 us guild.

The above is good advice, even for a casual guild. I state out loud and publically that anyone who is attempting to use my friendship in order to get pixels, is really just abusing my friendship, and thus not a friend. The people that think they are excluded are usually the first off my christmas list and unloaded from the guild. Friends simply don't take advantage of friends. Especially not for trivial reasons such as in-game loot.

    Suggest 2 raiding teams.

Team 1 is good time charly - Chatting on vent is suggested and no enchants/gems/consumables are required

Team 2 is going to be focussed and dull - you need to have the all the above and the focus is progression. This is your raid and these are the rules. If you cant find guildies that meet the requirements you will pug to fill slots.

Its providing a service to your guild everyone gets what they want
