Riding high...

So last night, I got to main tank Magtheridon. These types of things are why I truly love tanking more then dps'ing with my warlock. The rush and thrill of knowing that 24 other people are depending on you being on your A-game is such a high. I was really worried before we started that I would have aggro issues. We were running with another guild (Eve of Destruction) that is farther progressed then Citadel is currently. They have been basically said we have first dibs on any open spots for their raids. Last night they brought in me (prot warrior), my wife (feral druid), pally tank, mage and a hunter from us. My worry about aggro though was I know some of them overgear me quite a bit and a couple of the warlocks are apparently notorious for their threat generation (I can relate, being a destruction warlock).
So we engaged for the first try, me leading off on first Shadowcaster. Easily got through them, I ran around picking up any loose infernals until Mag was close to popping out. I grabbed him immediately and drug him to my corner (made a lame joke prior to the pull that I didn't wanna stand in the corner. /cry). Got him to about 40% before a badly timed earthquake made a misclick happen... /wipe. This guild does it very smartly though, all the tanks besides the main tank become the cube clickers. Not many tanks are effective at dps anyways, so makes sense to me.
Anyways, reset and buffs. We go again. Shadowcasters go down, though a little slowly. I grab Mag again as soon as he pops, and start wailing away while standing in my corner. I notice then how high my threat is.. I am leaps and bounds beyond anyone. The first try, my wife said I was 50k above the closest person. This time I'm not quite so high but still up there. The warlocks do start gaining on me.. but not enough to worry about. At 30%, I pop Shield Wall and Nightmare Seed and keep going to town. Raid leader starts calling out percentage.. 5.. 4.. 3.. 2.. 1..
Mag down! God it was so invigorating. Do you all have this feeling when you maintank something new and manage to get it down?

Grats! That's really the reason I love tanking as well. When you're tanking, it really feels like you're doing something.Posted 07-11-2008 at 11:58 AM by Thireas

I recently worked up the Mag chain. Tanking the second warlock then the third then the fourth then the fifth and finally Magtheridon himself. It's a great feeling to finally get a chance to MT.
Congrats!Posted 07-11-2008 at 06:47 PM by Squeegiemama
