Thursday night is our first 25m Ulduar night of the raid week (3 days Ulduar, 1 day naxx)... and this past thursday we were down a tank, having a DPSer go offspec for bosses

all is fine until XT.

he forgot to switch specs/gear to tank the pummelers...

no biggie, the 2nd tank will just pick up all of em, we do XT the cheating way anyways, so only 2 piles will spawn adds...

2nd tank gets a lightbomb while running away from the healers... and dies.

I'm alone with my UA build, which the guild has named 'Super Spec'. After that night, I don't think theres any arguing it.

I'm glyphed and speced to reduce Shield Wall CD's to 2 mins, which happens to be the exact amount of time between tantrums.

So I managed to tank all the pummelers and the boss for the last 3 minutes of the encounter.

Now, I have to do it every week!

XT is actually best done with just using 1 tank in the end. We use some MD's if we get adds. More dps or more healers = win and for hard mode it's required.

    Gratz on the kill though

Yeah, before we started trying for heartbreaker, I distinctly remember my paladin co-tank got locked out of the encounter. This was also before we learned about the pile-proximity so we tanked him at the stairs. By the end of it, I had approx 6 pummelers on me, AND the boss wailing away. It was intense, and afterwards I was a twitching mass.

I actually took the time to go downstairs, rustle through boxes for an old microphone, plugged it in, set it up. All to just say 2 words...

    Never. Again.

I've tanked the pummelers in my block/blockvalue set and got a boss extra for 2 minutes once. I'd say you'd be better of in that case... Either way! grats on saving the day!

Also - 3 tanks normally? Deconstructor, running it with one tank at least, would in my book warrant a more traditional protection specc. With so much incomming damage you want to be able to thunderclap/improved demo stuff too.

Yeah, we normally run 3 tanks, even 4 sometimes depending on who decides to show up to the raid.

It was intense tho, not going into it expecting that... and just kinda pickin' it up on the fly.

2 tanks is understandable... but 3 and 4? what do they even do?

    Not a whole lot.

Not everyone has dual specs yet...

but fights like Ignis and Auriya we do it, having 4 makes it generally go smoother.
