Farming

Well, lets see. We've cleared SSC and of the 5 pre-Vashj bosses, we've killed Leo the least and that's at least 6 or 7 times by now...probably more like 8 or 9. We've killed Vashj once after working on her for 6 weeks and hope to kill her again tonight after a brief rest from killing her.

In the meantime, we went to HM one night during the past 2 weeks and have killed Rage, Anetheron and got Kaz to ~20% on the first and only attempt after losing the tank half way through (NPC parry splat)

So...what to do now? I'd like to kill Kael. Maybe kill Vashj one or two more times and concentrate on MH/BT. Sounds reasonable, eh?

I'm deeply concerned about this. My guild is rather split on it. When posed as a poll, a significant portion want to kill Leo/FLK "3+ more times before retiring"

Why?

"I still need my X"

/facepalm. Its a pet peeve of mine (if you read my blog, you know I have quite a few and they really eat at me) It concerns me about people's motivations for raiding.

Its a casual raiding guild. We are not pushing progression, we're not in it to be first or fifth but, presumably, to see content at our own pace. I'm bothered by the fact that a number of players don't want to move on to new content without filling out thier loot wishlists.

To be honest, the "One more time and retire them" option is leading but it could swing the other way as more people vote.

I don't want to run SSC anymore. I don't want to keep rehashing content we've defeated ad nauseum over and over till we squeeze every item everyone wants out of them.

It bothers me a little deeper as these are the people I'm going into battle with every raid. I like alot of them but certainly not all of them. I'm an asshole, a well established concept here on my blog.

I raid for the content, the achievement and once I set aside the fact that alot of people have already done what I am doing months ago, its still worth working at. The rewards I crave are satisfaction of a job well done and progressing through a story line. Not purple pixels. Sure, want my fair share along the way but having killed a boss 10 times is enough. Seriously.

I don't know if I can do that. I'm not sure I want to raid under those circumstances. I can't very well sit here and call people idiots for wanting what they want....that's how they choose to play the game and what appeals to them.

I'm not angry or grouchy....I'm disappointed. It all seems so petty, so self serving. Oh well, I have other stuff to do and I can sit out raids that are loot farms, I guess.

I'm surprised that the loot driven people aren't looking beyond SSC/TK for their wish lists. Seems relatively odd that they just look to what you're farming now rather than what you could be clearing.

Hung up on completing sets and bonuses, maybe. Getting fixated on one item as something they "need".

It was alot worse back in the days before BC. Suggesting we drop MC and move on(different guild where I was the MT/RL) nearly caused a riot because people couldn't live without T2 legs.

Eh, I just needed to vent. If that's what we do, I'll find other things to occupy my time when we are re-re-refarming stuff.

Then don't raid those raids... Or, take your tank, who I assume is NOT fully T5 geared?

Yeah, we had the same dilemna when we pushed T5 off the schedule, everyone that wanted to keep farming shutup after we killed 4/5 4/9 in the first two weeks, lols.

It's almost worse trying to push people out of Kara and on to SSC and The Eye. Aside from drop "X" there is also the badges, badges, more badges furvor that comes along with the kara drops.

Anyhow, I hope enough votes fall in your favor that you can find what you after in the guild your in. It's a sad day when the tipping point is reached and you realize you have to look elsewhere for that.

Update:

Well, the results are in and it looks like we will make one more run at Leo/FLK and 2 more at the subKael bosses in TK. I guess I can deal with that. I could always pick up some extra gear, maybe mix my warrior in.

We're going after Kael and that makes me happy. There's definitely people who would rather skip him but he is a central figure in BC's storyline and needs to die. My reasons for raiding are listed above....and Kael is a challenge. We've already rolled over Rage, Anetheron and in one pull, beat Kaz within an inch of his life. There's little doubt in my mind BT would be the same through the first few bosses.

By the end of May, we should be fully into T6, maybe swinging back for an extra Kael kill here or there. Last night we beat Vashj for a 2nd time but it took 5 tries. We knock that down some and we can skip Lurker for good.

So, we're on the right track. I'm still a little bothered that people are so hung up on loot and that was the subtext of this blog entry.
