Thoughts on a casual guild.
Prince Down! Self-examination commenced

Last night was a guild first (+ 3 pugs).
Prince was killed by the Killer Cows from Space and I breathed a sigh of relief.
Two months ago, I posted a "State of the Guild" address in response to a few things that had happened in guild. My goal at that time was to kill Prince before the expansion. At the time, I deemed that a lofty goal. We had our #1 healer and off-tank going on haiatus until mid-April. Our DPS warrior had left the guild because we didnt raid enough. And frankly, our dps blew goats.
Pugs have made all the difference. I have regularly tried to find a holy pally (and been successful) and then dps. I am understanding that almost all of the pugs we get are in SSC+ guilds and are just here to farm for badges, but we blow comparatively. Many guilds can kill Curator in about 2 minutes (from looking at WWStats), we kill in 5.5.
That was getting off topic. The pugs have helped immensely. Our DPS warrior came back. And we finally got him last night.
Now I am wondering if I can keep going each week and push up to him when it is really such a chore. Two nights a week, 4 hour apiece. First night, we get through Chess. Second night...we wipe continually on Prince. I do not see any improvement from most of our dps or healer. I get frustrated when small things occur (Don't yell "mana" when you are over half during trash). An officer told me that I get too worked up over stuff like this. That is true. But since I started getting worked up and taking this seriously, we have moved through to at least the Shade of Aran in a quick time period (compared to taking 3 months to down Moroes when I was more relaxed and didnt care about afks/raid stats).
Now, I am looking at some downtime. This will cause a couple people to leave (See: DPS Warrior). But I just dont think that I can stay in Kara and farm the first 4 bosses anymore just to sit and wipe on Prince until we get lucky. I do not think that we are ready skill-wise for ZA. If you have a tough time knowing that you are enfeebled, then all you look at is the ass of the mob (just because I turned it away from you).
Our couple that are on haiatus will be back soon, perhaps I will be ready to try something then. Some arenas may be helpful...or just another alt.

When you clear through Chess on the first night are you including downing Netherspite? If not, learn that fight. Once your team learns that fight then he's an easy kill. That means almost no trash left to clear the next night when going to Prince. Plus, Netherspite has your shoulders!
Don't get discouraged wiping on Prince. If your healers are up to the task then it's purely a matter of having the infernals fall in the right place. Or really, I suppose, not having them fall in the wrong place. Prince is a horribly random encounter due to infernals, so just keep everyone on their toes and try again until you get a favorable infernal pattern.
Oh, and gratz on the kill. Prince is one of those benchmark kills that always satisfying to get under your belt.Posted 03-17-2008 at 12:09 PM by McBash

Gratz on your Prince kill, its a good feeling. Nightbane feels great too so hopefully good luck with your endeavor with him.
Our raid used to be like that, ultra casual, lots of afks and such but our core group got tired of never getting to Prince because we run out of time(We only raid Kara two nights a week now due to peoples RL issues). So people decided we were going to change, it has to be a whole-group mentality not just you.
Now we are full clearing Kara in two nights, our current record is just over 5 hours total clear time over two nights.
What is working for us is:
Night 1: Attumen, Moroes, Maiden, Opera, Nightbane, Curator
Night 2: Shade, Illhoof, Netherspite, Chess, Prince
The night two bosses basically all sit on top of each other and once you get the strategies down they are easy kills, its good for morale going into Prince and because they all go down so quick relative to each other it leaves lots of time to work on Prince.
Once again gratz and keep going at it.Posted 03-18-2008 at 06:10 AM by Ripper522
