Guild woes

At first, I figured to make this blog a first person diary of my character because I rarely had anything to say outside of the game. But of course, things do not go as planned.
For awhile, my guild has been trekking through Karazhan, progressing at about one boss per week. While the other raiders are not the best players in the world, we manage to pull through with me tugging along as main tank. This continued until we managed our first full clear. Then all hell breaks loose.
Enter Sinnderella. She is the girlfriend of one of our healers, who recently hit level 70. And she has never tanked before. And we decided to drag her through Karazhan because she needs upgrades.
Now, I have no problems gearing people up. We recently had a rogue in greens who is now mostly in purples (though I hate him for getting all his drops within a week...). I do, however, have a problem with running people who have no clue what they are doing.
We went from farm status on everything except Nightbane (which we downed first time) to not being able to kill Netherspite/Nightbane at all.
I suppose the good news is that I have been recruited into Nubasaurus's guild, which is full of competent players as far as I can tell. Hopefully I will not lose too much hair within the next week...

- She refused to put on a shield for tanking. We were attempting to let her tank Arcatraz for her last key fragment. She pulled the first group and proceeded to "tank" them with a polearm. I told her 3 times afterwards to put on a shield, but that never happened.
- She showed up to Karazhan with this spec, which is by far the worst warrior spec I have ever seen.
- She did less DPS than me when I was tanking. I had maybe 30% on top of her damage.
- She was pulling aggro. Turns out, she used mocking blow as a damage ability.
- She respecced to this. She really likes that Booming Voice...
- She wanted to tank one of the bosses, which by this point we were on Netherspite/Prince/Nightbane. Despite the fact that she was in greens, DPS blues, and not even close to being crit immune, she insisted to tank something just because she respecced.
- She "off tanked" Prince. I am pretty sure she sold her polearm by this stage because we tried telling her to put on a DPS set. That lasted a good 30 seconds before enfeeble/shadow nova flattened her.
- She did not know how to sidestep. I had to tell her to use Q and E against Netherspite. Worse yet, she kept keyboard turning against Netherspite despite me telling her to stop turning and sidestep.
We went from farm status on everything except Nightbane (which we downed first time) to not being able to kill Netherspite/Nightbane at all.

I like to call this "I'm always right" syndrome. I feel bad for you and your guild, but i feel worse for your buddy since its his GF.
You will never get through to this person, ever. I would just phase her out of stuff until she gets the point. Talk to your guildie about this and let him know why are you excluding her.
Nothing is worth that much trouble, even if your "just being nice". wipes cost money and stupidity causes wipes. No one wants either.Posted 01-29-2008 at 09:57 AM by Trainwrex

Have your buddy let her tank heroics. That way you won't need to deal with it at all and she can get her purps.

I don't know for sure if this is the case, but I've been with plenty of warriors who were like this at first, and ultimately I was about the same((what do you mean i cant tank Rag with Destiny, it works so well in Strat)). And its possible you were being perfectly nice about training her and she just wouldnt listen but I took an entire tank team in one of my friends guild and got them to listen by being polite, and telling them how to improve through tells.
Never take something like that into /raid or /guild it may make perfect sense to you, and it might even be the simplest thing ever but if you do it in public it will ALWAYS come across as you're trying to make them look bad... especially if they really dont know better.
Again I'm not saying that you were doing these things, but to say you'll never get through to someone isn't fair. A lot of players are really new and its possible she started playing the game because of her boyfriend and got sped through things so didnt get the chance to learn that a lot of us did. If you're still there, take the time to chat with her in private, let her know why you were saying things, and ultimately remember its just a game. She could easily become one of the better warriors you'll meet... or she could ignore you completely and stay where she is, its still only fair to give her a chancePosted 01-29-2008 at 12:09 PM by Jylina
