Illidan dead WOO!

Finally, we beat the game! (Dang Blizzard for adding more bosses, so that we havent really beat the game anymore).

The Illidan fight is interesting, not as hard as Kael imo, probably not as hard as Vashj, but there is a ton going on, and a lot of trasnitions that you have to deal with, positioning, etc.

The two hard parts are the flames in phase 2, and demon transitions./learning to kill the demons that spawn quickly and safely.

For the MT, the hard parts are:
1) NOT hitting shield block every 5 seconds like you have done for every fight of the entire game up until now. Fighting your habit of hitting that button is critical. You need to have it available for when he casts shear or you can die.
2) Positoning and Transitions. Dealing with flame patches, quickly moving him out of them while not letitng him face the raid to do his life drain, etc. We didnt even bother with the phase 5 prisons, just pop cooldowns and ironshield potions for those.

Our guild was formed out of a large casual guild, by the people in that guild who wanted to come to a raid and actually have people show up for it. If formed in february, starting out as about 15-20 people leveling their charactersfrom 60 to 70 and trying to do osme 5 mans. I wasnt even 60 when BC hit, I had started playing about 6 weeks prior, and joined the server of a couple RL friends who were raid leaders in their casual guild.

In BC, we started out very slow, finally getting to 10 kara keyed members in mid march. At that time I was just learning to play, and to tank.

A year ago our guild was far down in the progression on our server. We hadnt even cleared Kara yet, while the top guild was doing T5 bosses. Many, many guilds were ahead of us, and recruiting was hard.

We had a strong core though, with some skilled players, and once we got enough people, we started killing T5 bosses and recruiting got better. We passed a number of guilds (some of whom collapsed), and we came into 4th place on our server's hordeside progression. Whenever our weaker members would leave we were able to replace them with strong people, and gradually we developed a great roster. Staying small was one key to our success, with about 40-45 people and no alts in the guild.

Once we finally developed into a strong, skilled raiding guild, our progression accelerated and
over the past months we have now moved into a tie for 2nd place with our Illidan kill.

I look forward to starting WotLK with a solid, already formed guild, and competing for first place on our server's progression lists. Its great to see a guild be built from nothing, and progress all the way to Illidan :)

Finally Leet: Starting BT/Hyjal

(My first blog entry here) :)

My guild finally killed Vashj in early January (after 3 weeks of attmepts on her, after we finally got Leo and Karathress down), and Kael last week (again 3 weeks of attempts). We are just now starting Hyjal and BT, and did our last SSC run yesterday. (About 2 more weeks of Kael and everyone will have both vial remnants).

It feels good to finally be leet, able to enter the final areas of the game before patch 2.4 comes out, and exciting to face all the new bosses.

Yay for new content! :)
