First Post - Personal Journal
I'm just using this space as a journal to track my progress and see how long it takes me to reach different milestones.
I raided with my pally and MT'd the server first clear of ZA when 2.3 hit. I thought I was OK, but I knew so many people who were so much better, all warriors (so few tankadins around) and I couldn't see how I would improve, and it bothered me.
We had a new prot warrior join the guild, pretty decent gear, but he was so bad (ninja pulls, poor threat, poor awareness) I wondered if it was something to do with warriors.
My RL workload radically increased and I was no longer able to put in raid time. I took the opportunity to go horde and roll a Tauren Warrior which I intended to solo and PuG with as my limited hours allowed.
Fast forward two months and I've now geared myself as best as I can from craftables and quest rewards (I never get decent instance drops - the only thing I have from an instance in my main gear is my cloak).
Benchmark as 15.7k hp and 15.4k armor which seems OK pre-Kara.
Did Kara up to Aran (+chess) for the first time on Sunday. I felt pretty pleased with it as nothing could pull aggro from me, save mages AoEing on the packs in the ballroom before Moroes.
Even happier last night when I think I finally understood spell reflect tanking and comfortably handled the 6-packs in Blackheart the Inciter's room in normal SL.
That was my first time with all my new keybinds, and just using the mouse to move and click targets. I've been trying to get it down for the last few weeks, but I finally think its sinking in.
I find there is more to do as a warrior, more options available, than as my tankadin. Some abilites, interrupts and spell reflect in particular, are almost game-breakingly good. I spent a long time leveling this toon being really, really angry about how paladins have been shafted, in terms of their design. I've kind of come to terms with it, but now I no longer identify with my pally, and only feel comfortable with this guy.

| | Had much the same issues transitioning from a Feral Druid to a Prot Warrior. Got the Warrior to 70 the week after Christmas and started the gearing. The Druid was far easier to gear up, held aggro with less effort (spread the mangles around with swipe and could hold 4-5 easily provided not too much AOE) and had some very nice pulling options (stealth to really see what was ahead, hurricane pulls, sprint pulls, cyclone pulls, faerie fire or moonfire for that "instant pull"). However, when it hit the fan all I could do was pop my trinkets and pray. Frenzied Regen is a poor poor shadow of Last Stand. With the Warrior, while more work, I could actually save myself (Last Stand and/or Shield Wall and trinkets). Nobody says to the Warrior "Shouldn't the Feral Druid be tanking as they can't do anything else?" At T4 level I was far ahead of our Prot Warriors/Pallies with respect to mitigation, but if they "could" tank it, better off using them. The Warrior doesn't have to eat crushes (although I do now on a lot of content for extra rage). Yea, the bear could take some hits, but a crush from Gruul still hurt even with 33k AC. Avoidance is about the same right now, but the Warriors will generally surpass the bears given enough time. There's a lot more upside to the Warrior itemization than the bears at T5/6, or at least there was last time I looked. I far prefer tanking bosses on the Warrior and tanking with him in general. |
