Getting Shoulders

Last week my Holy pally friend and I decided we were going to start doing serious 2v2s. Last week we pushed 1980.

Today we got together and did some games aiming for 2050 for my shoulders.

We won our first game and preceded to our second one. It was hunter/ret pally double DPS comp. I sat on hunter and snared/peeled pally if needed. But they did a hard switch to my pally and he got owned by GCD before he could bubble. Lame mistake but we figured we'd get them again and own them.

After that game we proceeded to win 9 in a row to get 2050. The last game was against a 2350 Prot pally/warrior team. The warrior was a lot better than most and we won through focusing warrior and shutting down pally heals for a gib. When the warrior was at 5k health I just left him alone and interrupted the pally so my partner could holy shock him to death :D. Prot healer teams are pretty simple to gib between mind freeze, gnaw, strangulate, and HoJ.

We won 3 more games which also gave us a hotter streak and then some.

We eventually lost to mage/priest which is a pretty skill oriented comp imo. Coordinated gibs and control to finally force a kill. After that we called it until next week.

Look forward to seeing how far we can push :D

2k and bad server

So last night my 3v3 hit 2k. We run Unholy DK/ Feral Druid/ Holy Pally.

It feels more rewarding because you earned it with your friends instead of the best players you can possibly find.

Next time we do games we should hit 2050 for shoulders :D

Now that we hit 2k, I went to check the arena ladders.

This just goes to show how dead alliance side is on my server:

One more win will put us at #5 ranked alliance 3's on the server.

Right now I'm the 4th ranked DK for alliance on my server.

Hopefully this week we can push 3v3 even higher (2.1k+). Before the season is up I think we'll try to get a ton of games in (at least until we basically even out and can't seem to push).

We also should be starting 5v5 this week once we find a 5th. We'll be running Unholy DK/ Feral Druid/ Arms Warrior/ Holy Pally/ Resto Shaman or Disc Priest.

Gear wise I just bought cloak and next time we play I'll get shoulders. Next week I'll get helm. After that I'll replace hateful set pieces and I'll be pretty much decked. I also have DMC: Death in my bags waiting for the faire to start.

After that the only upgrades I'll have are T2 Furious weapon and DMC: Greatness.

I'll probably have to go buy some victory and maybe regem for some hit once I replace my hero's pieces.

S6 so far

So I've been playing S6 as unholy DK.

I arena with friends that I've been playing with for years (since preBC). We've all got better at PvP now we're trying to be competitive. Having played together so long helps a lot with communication on teamwork.

In 2v2 right now I'm playing with my Holy pally friend. The team is low rated but we're matchmaking at 1900-2k. So far we're 19-13 although to begin with we were 9-0. We can counter some comps but others can just own us. Once I'm out of defensive cooldowns its GG.

Any team that has a pally as the prot healing sec is basically a win for us. They have no instant heals so With a good rotation of stuns/pummels we can force a bubble and then repeat again for a kill.

Any team with a druid is going to be a pain. Cyclone rotations and innervate owns us it most cases unless we can gib someone very quickly.

I've noticed this season is a lot more like TBC seasons. A lot of 2v2 fights become mana wars and it's very hard to gib someone down. CC is a lot more dominant.

In 3v3 we're at 1950 (got weapon the other day :D). We run Unholy DK/Holy Pally/Feral Druid. Sometimes a warrior will run in my spot or he will take the druid's spot. It's fun to play. We've got some decent strats for comps we keep seeing.

I play on Altar of Storms Alliance. It is a terrible server so our 3v3 is #5 alliance 3v3. We're going to try to get 1975 tonight and then we'll be the #3 3v3 on the server ;). We'll probably hit 2k sometime soon.

I haven't done much 5v5 although I would like to.

I like playing DK more than I liked playing my warrior in S5. I haven't gone back but I'm sure it's a bit more fun now that arms isn't terrible.

Yesterday I went back to frost pvp spec for BG's. I have to say if you haven't tried this, you should. Your obliterate and frost strike crit so much you can burst someone down in a couple GCD's (My scourge strike rarely seems to crit but does around 4k non crits). I tried it for 2v2 yesterday and it was ok. Players run a lot more resil in arena so your crit's won't be as ridiculously high. We eneded up going 2-5 but the losses were more counter comp than they were outplayed. I think that spec would be my main one if I ran with a druid and had XT sigil.

I may try blood one of these days so I can have a reference for when I put in the blood section to the DK PvP guide.

3.1 so far

Well, I'm liking 3.1 so far.

I bought dual specs first thing and I decided to do 1 PvP and 1 PvE spec. It's nice being able to switch on demand.

I'm also liking the Queue from anywhere feature for BG's. It's nice to just be in the middle of icecrown and decide to do a BG.

The patch also brought Enemy Unit frames for arena. I tried these out in a couple skirmishes but decided I liked Gladius better.

I started using the new ultra video settings. I don't really notice anything looking better than it already did but whatever.

I also tried to use the new advanced quest tracking feature. It seems bugged because if I try to track any quests or achievements I get a "Full" message. This seems to be happening to a lot of people. Has anyone got this to work correctly?

The new LFG system looks nice. Haven't got a chance to use it yet though.

It's a sad day when you can't instance hearth from Stormwind anymore :(. At least hearthstone CD is reduced

I went out to the Argent Tournament to try it out. It's pretty cool I guess but I won't be one of those people that goes out there and does the dailies over and over again. It seems like the Holiday events to me (I don't participate in those either).

I went to VoA on Wednesday to try out the new boss. Alliance controlling WG is a small miracle on my server. Some guildies came along and we pugged the rest for 10 man. Archavon went down as usual but then we decided to go try out the new boss Emalon. We pulled the first trash mob and DPS couldn't kill it before it exploded. Wiped almost everyone. We then proceeded to do the same on the second mob. I looked up the strat guide posted on the forums and explained it to the raid. We tried multiple attempts to do it but we just couldn't kill the charged mob in time. We are badly geared plus it was a PUG. We eventually gave up and tried to find 25 people for heroic but my server is so underpopulated I had to go before we could get 25 people together.

The fact that they added a boss like that to VoA annoys me. A boss that's raid is unlocked through PvP shouldn't be a gear check. I doubt many PUGS will be able to down that boss. I'm fine with there being a lot of coordination required, but to make you kill something that fast is ridiculous from a PvPer standpoint. Raiders are going to start doing this as a guild instead of a PUG and that means they'll have access to S6 drops that PvPers can't even get (even though they fought the battle to be allowed access to the raid). Rage at AJ about this: http://www.arenajunkies.com/showthread.php?t=77268

Of course there was the scramble to update addons for 3.1. I'm ashamed to say I used wowmatrix and wowinterface/curse blocked it. I know wowmatrix is ethically wrong but it was too easy to pass up. If curse client and whatever wowinterface has was merged by them and made as easy as wowmatrix I wouldn't complain. I had curse client in the past and it was spamming, turned itself on all the time, and really didn't get many updates. I ended up manually updating everything and now I'm waiting for the last few addons to be updated. I'll probably reupdate them in a week or two just to make sure.

Everyone's been talking about Ulduar. I see a bunch of posts about it being too easy. I love how people who haven't even done the content complain. Until YOU clear it with all the hard modes, you can't complain.

My guild finally downed KT on 10 man last week. We've just started raiding recently so that's why we're really behind.

This week we got a group together for 10 man OS. We downed all of the drakes and headed to the boss. When the first wall came we all noticed something was wrong. It appears on the side, grows, then disappears. Then it reappears and grows again as it moves. It wasn't really a major problem since you should already know where to stand but it was just annoying. At around 50% health the world server crashed and came back an hour later. All the trash was back and we had to clear that again. We downed him and the flame walls were still bugged. I did OS 25 yesterday and they were still like that so it wasn't a one time thing.

Tonight I think my guild will be attempting the first boss in Ulduar since it's a vehicle fight. Other than that boss I doubt we can beat any enrage timers or even keep the tanks alive.

I've gone 17/51/3 (http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#jfVMVZGMxzArcocuV0stc:kaNmMV) spec on my DK for PvP. It has good burst and once I get some decent gear I bet this spec will wreck face. I'm still working on the finishing touches (gear/playing) to get the most out of this spec. This morning I think I crit a 7k Obilterate followed by a 6k Frost strike in WSG. Very nice burst. I've been looking through the AH for the new Howling blast glyph but I haven't been able to find it. Maybe I'll just go with the hungering cold one instead. The play style is definitely more fun than the IT spam of shadowfrost spec. I'll probably be rethinking my keybinds as well. More on the spec here: http://www.arenajunkies.com/showthread.php?t=77497

I've been looking for a good PvE DPS spec for my DK. So far I've just copied the 3.1 unholy one from EJ. I would love for some DK's to give me some advice on which tree puts out the most DPS and a talent calc for it :D

Enjoying my Server switch

While I was leveling my death knight it was brought to my attention that players that I played with during Pre-BC and TBC had started playing again on Altar of Storms. Me and a few others had already left and were enjoying Korgath at the time. My friend's immediately Xferred back but I was debating with myself. I wanted to go but Altar of Storms it such a terrible server compared to Korgath.

Eventually I caved in since I had no other reason to stay other than the awesomeness of the server itself. I xferred and rejoined my friends that I've been playing with forever.

The guild's main core is a bunch of people that attend the same school in NY. Then there are those of us who just know them through the game.

We have around 12-15 80's. Once I hit 80 we started to organize guild runs for VoA 10/25, OS 10/25, and Naxx 10. For the 25's we have to PUG which is a really big pain (lol fire walls) but I think if we find a few more good players we could start running full guild runs. The raiding has been nice. I usually just PvP'd on my warrior. I've kinda put PvP on the side for the time being. Just focused around clearing all of naxx. We currently have the Construct quarter left along with Sapph and KT. (Wish us luck tonight). I might try to get 10 man maly down if we get better geared.

I've fallen back to my old role in the guild which was recruiter. I've also been 2nd in command for the raids. Along with that I've been trying to organize the guild (ranks/events and stuff) so new members will be able to understand it. I've also been in charge of making some guild forums.

In raids I've been around 2-3rd DPS using shadowfrost (PvP spec). I'm doing around 2-2.5k on boss fights. Hopefully once everyone gets more geared the low DPS won't be as raidwide as it is now.

TL;DR it's been a good start and I have high hopes for the guild this time around :D

Finally got my DK to 80

I finally dinged my DK after around a month of leveling him from 55. It's on the server Altar of Storms -alliance. It was a nice change to go back to all the questing zones from the continuous BG grind at 80 for gear.

My warrior is basically put on the shelf for a while. I think it's going to take more than the buffs we're getting to make us as good as we used to be in TBC.

I'm already liking the DK's playstyle better, melee/caster hybrid with interesting spells.

I've planned him all out (you can see in my previous blog).

If you've noticed I haven't been posting much, it's because I've been trying to get my DK to 80 asap. I'll start posting more now.

Image: http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t103/bloodwraith816/Leveling%20my%20DK/WoWScrnShot_032809_181108.jpg

Pretty fast (for me anyway). In quest gear I can put out 1500-2k dps in raids. I picked up Titansteel Destroyer right after I dinged 80. I also picked up Sigil of the Frozen Conscience for the PvP spec.

As I leveled I took some scenic screenshots and I've uploaded them to photobucket if anyone wants to see them.

Keybinds: Work in Progress

Playstyle:

---Quote---
The basic premise of the spec is you get the Frost talents which have the greatest effect on Icy Touch: Improved Icy Touch, Glacier Rot, Black Ice, Killing Machine and Deathchill.

Combined with the Frost talents are Unholy talents which further affect Icy Touch: Impurity, Ebon Plaguebringer and Rage of Rivendare (and to a lesser extent Bone Shield and Desecration).

Together, these talents have incredible synergy and give Icy Touch damage approximately equivalent to Scourge Strike and guranteed crits through Killing Machine.

As ShadowFrost, it is often difficult to know which presence to use and good players disagree over what the "default" presence (or the one they use the most) should be.

Blood Presence*offers the hardest hits and highest sustained damage. If your spec does not take Unholy Aura then you wont have a speed bonus in this presence and may want to avoid it. This presence is typically used in games which which take longer (for instance if you 2v2 with a healer and run into another dps/healer comp).

Unholy Presence*offers the highest burst damage at the cost of some sustained damage. This presence is most useful in situations where you wont be able to spend a lot of time on a target before the escape (for instance a paladin kiting away from you with freedom or if a rogue is on you stunning frequently) or when you need to burst. Empower Rune Weapon is much stronger in this presence because the shorter GCD allows you to cycle through runes faster. If you dont have Unholy Aura, this presence should probably be your default.

Frost Presence*offers by far the best mitigation. If your healer needs to drink or you expect a big burst (e.g. the other team bloodlusts) it is crucial to be able to switch to Frost on short notice to mitigate damage.

When you actually get into arena, you will be dealing primary damage with Icy Touch, while snaring targets with Desecration and Blood Boil. Spreading diseases with Pestilence is important to do better overall damage, make dispelling diseases harder and allow Blood Boil snares on multiple targets.

Deathchill will not be consumed if Killing Machine is active, so don't be afraid to pop it any time during a burst attempt. If KM procs then you will get 2 crit ITs in a row.

Corpse Explosion can be a very effective nuke. With Ebon Plague on the target, Glyph of the Ghoul and Ravenous Dead, this ability, when used on your living ghoul, can hit (NOT crit) for 25% of your ghoul's health (+13% from Ebon Plague) which will typically be 5k or more. The downside is the target must not be moving, so its best used on a target you have stunned or otherwise immobilized. Combine this with Deathchilled IT for huge combos.

Well yesterday I finally finished getting one of every class to 60 using RAF. I did them all in less than the free 30 days you get from buying vanilla WoW :D

I finished it off by granting the hunter from level 2 to 60 in the middle of stormwind. There were many yells of WTFHAX and I spent the next 20 minutes explaining that RAF allows the gantable levels. And of course there was that idiot that stood next to me and said gratz for every single level. /facepalm

Once I see the patch 3.1 notes I'll probably xfer my warrior from Korgath back to Altar of Storms to play with some friends (Blog on this soon probably). If all it is is nerfs for wars I'm gonna reroll death knight and just give up on warriors. The state that they are in in PvP is ridiculous.

I'll probably give the RAF account to a RL friend who wants to start playing WoW. He'll probably make a Death knight once he upgrades the account.

PS- In the process of writing a RAF leveling guide so get ready for it :D

Well the past few weeks, I've been on a quest to get one of every class to 60 using recruit a friend.

My first set was Rogue/Pally to 60. Got them there in around 17 hours played. Granted my 30 druid to 60.

Tonight my second set hit 60 (Mage/Priest). Granted my DK form 58-60. They hit 60 in around 16 hours played. I think if I logged anytime I went afk, it would be even less.

Next set is Warlock/Shaman, then I'll be able to grant a level 2 hunter to 60.

I'll be done with my quest within the free month you get from buying vanilla WoW.

Writing a RAF guide. I'll have it finished in the next week or two.

Just giving a little info on what I have in store for my current guides, and new ones I'm working on.

*_Current Guides:_*

*_PvP Guide: _*

* Pretty much covered anything I can think of. I guess I can wait until next patch for any more updates.

*_HoL Guide: _*

* Nothing really to this, Imo there isn't anything left to cover.

*_Keybinds Guide: _*

* Nothing really to this, Imo there isn't anything left to cover.

*_Addon Listing: _*

* Continue to update with anyone's replies. I've found all I can by myself.

*_Guides that I'm working on:_*

* Heroic VH Guide
* RAF Leveling Guide

I've also been thinking about doing some more heroic guides, but I haven't done them all so anyone who is interested in doing one, I can provide a template and all you will have to do is fill out the stategy sections. Those guides would be Heroic:

* UK
* UP
* Nexus
* Oculus
* Drak'Tharon
* Hundrak
* HoS
* AN
* Old Kingdom
* Culling of Stratholme

Any more suggestions are welcome :D

RAF Mistake

So I recently decided to start doing RAF. I'm currently content to wait for people to get PvP gear and make it more of a skill based game in arenas instead of comps being hard counters. (Plus I'm partner-less atm lol). I plan on leveling one of every class to 60 before the 90 days is up. I'll be leveling on Korgath Alliance side.

So I drove by Wal-Mart Friday night and picked up the original game. I had something to do Friday but yesterday (Saturday) I had every intention of hopping on my friend's druid and power leveling some new chars up (Pally and Rogue first).

I sent myself a RAF email and followed the link to create my new account. But here, I made the mistake of entering in my CD key instead of my RAF Key that I got in the email. I figured once i made the account it would ask me for the key or something :confused:. I created my new account and logged onto my new characters, only to find that I didn't get anything special. At that point I realized my mistake and I was pretty pissed off at myself for it.

I emailed blizz, petitioned a GM (High volume of tickets blah blah blah), and made a thread on the customer service forum. I haven't recieved an email but a GM got up with me about 3 hours later and said I needed to call in and explain what happened. They only work weekdays, and Monday is a Holiday so no I'm stuck with two unlinked accounts until Tuesday. :(

Has anyone else made this mistake? It would make me feel like less of an idiot if someone has ;)

Finally 80

Well yesterday night I hit 80 around 10:00. I basically just logged off exhausted and content that I finally hit 80. :D

Now it's time to start new again and I'm preparing.

On a side note: a helpful thing I found while leveling was that wowhead has an option for each zone to show every quest giver for your faction. I used this to my advantage and got the quest achievement for every zone I leveled in. I did: Howling Fjord>Borean Tundra>Dragonblight>Grizzly Hills>Zul'Drak>and dinged 80 in Sholazar Basin.

This is basically what I did for each zone (yellow in paint once I cleared the quest hub):

Note: It's not done because it's on my other computer that I didn't usually use.

My WoW Story Pt. 1

Well I thought it would be fun to right a couple blog posts on how I started WoW and my playing experiences. So here it goes :D

--------------------------------

Before I played WoW I was hooked on Runescape (My first MMO). Before that I had only played Nintendo/Play station games and had never played anything with more people that there were controllers. I had a dial-up connection and a crappy computer so I lagged and lost connection whenever someone called the house, but I just liked the experience. It was fun (it was nice to have a game you couldn't beat for a change) and a few of my friends played it too.

I know now that Runescape isn't that great of a game. It requires almost no skill, your character's stats depend on how much time you have to spend. It had around 50 quests in the entire game. I always focused on making as much gp as a could and I was pretty successful at it. I can remember doing so many different repetitive tasks to get items (hours). At the time I only played probably 5 hours in an entire week so I tried to do the best with the time I had.

At one point I became a member (5 bucks a month) and started leveling my member only skills. I ended up grinding fletching over a period of months to level 88 making bows and selling them for gold, then buying more things to turn into bows.

I amassed around 4 mil in bows at one point. I found a buyer and out of my own stupidity and his lies I ended up getting killed one step inside the wilderness (PvP area). You lose all of your items when you die so I lost all of my bows because of that one mistake.

At some point during that time I had finally gotten cable internet :p. I tried to start all over but I just couldn't stand doing all of that work again. I ended up heading over to walmart and buying a game I had seen my friend playing (WoW).

I installed it (took forever on my old $300 dell). It was pretty laggy but I stuck with it because it was soo much better than Runescape. It wasn't focused around leveling trade skills, it was combat based with actual things to do when you got high levels. It the game and controls took a while to get used to, but I was able to manage them.

At first my friend urged my to play a horde hunter. I tried it but horde areas seemed kind of boring (desertslol) so I rolled a night elf warrior on a "Recommended" server (Altar of Storms).

I leveled slowly. I mostly did grinding (mostly due to the fact that I was used to a game that had almost no quests).

----------

I'll just end it here for now. I'll add more parts when ever I get a chance to sit down for a few minutes to type. :D

Well it's a bit(lol) late but I hit 1800 last night and bought my vengeful axe. Ended up hitting it as Arms War/Ret Pally/ Feral Druid. It got a bit frustrating at some points but in the end it worked out fine. :D

Last Nights Arenas

So yesterday I logged on, hoping to get some arena games in. My disc priest friend and my S4 shoudler ret pally friend were online so we decided to do some games, and hopefully get me to 1800 for my axe.

We started off well, and mistakes we made, we didn't make again. Eventually after an hour or two the team was a bit over 1800 and my personal rating was at 1796. I was ready for that last game and wanted my shiny new weapon.

Well, we lost that game, dropped a few points, but I wasn't discouraged. We did another game and lost. Ok, 2 games, not so bad right? It gets worse :confused:

We did a third game and we were going to win... until my pally friend dc'd from the game and didn't come back. So we lost that one, and couldn't play anymore with him until he came back.

He didn't come back at all, so we decided to try my hunter friend instead just to push me to 1800. Well the first game was against a team we had beat multiple times earlier in the night. The hunter got owned and we lost 20 rating.

We called it for the night, and I just ran around a BG or two QQing at my bad luck. :mad:

Well it's going to happen either tonight or next week, no exceptions lol.
