I'm aware that Blizzard haven't "gotten around to" looking at warriors in the Wrath beta yet, but I have some concerns that I'd like to see addressed when they do.
1. 30 minute cooldowns.
I slightly derailed another thread here about this issue, so I'm just going to directly copy what I posted there. (By the way, it's good to see that Divine Protection will again have a place on my paladins action bars)
I'd like to see Blizzard rework our 30 minute cooldowns altogether into something more useful (not that they aren't now, but the huge cooldown really holds them back). Perhaps they could shorten the cooldown and bring the effect into line accordingly. Honestly, how often do you actually use the big three cooldowns outside of a raid? Of the three I use Recklessness the most during Execute range on a raid boss. I don't often use Shield Wall because I don't usually need it, but I'll admit that's because I don't tank too much these days. Retaliation on the other hand needs to be buffed big time. It competes with Rend for the "least used ability" title for me.
2. Talents (41 and 51 point talents in particular and others too).
This issue was first raised in the Burning Crusade beta when our 41 point talents were unveiled. To put it simply, a few of our talents are underwhelming or overly inconvenient to use (Rampage, I'm looking at you). I'll address each talent I feel needs looking at separately in another blog post. Suffice to say, we have a lot of poor talents in all our trees that need work.
3. Class direction.
I have no intention of QQing about the nasty mean paladins, druids and deathknights takin' mah jerb, but I would like to know what direction Blizzard intend to take our class in Wrath. They seem to want to muddy the currently crystal clear waters of what each talent tree does; Arms for PVP, Fury for PVE DPS and Prot for tanking by adding things like Heroic Leap to Fury and Shockwave to Prot, as well as rumours I've heard abount Taunt working in PVP. They've also stated that they want warriors to feel more like Warcraft 3 warrior heroes like the Mountain King and Tauren Chieftain but that doesn't address our "place" in groups. How many warriors would you expect players to take to a raid in Wrath and for what role? What is our "niche" going to be? So far it seems like Paladins = AOE tank, Druid = excellent EH tank, DK = magic damage tank. Where do warriors fit in? These are the kind of things I'd like some kind of idea about. This point isn't a big one though, so I'll move on to the next one.
4. Umm.... I may have to save this one for a later post. I was in the zone when I started typing this but have since lost my train of thought. Stay tuned for my opinionated take on warrior talents as they are in the current Wrath beta build.

I really think Warriors will have a place as a high-threat tank. In order for DPSers to go all out, they need a high threat ceiling, and so need a tank who can put out tons of single-target threat. That's where I see my warrior right now, and that's where I see warriors for a long time.

| | I doubt we we be preferred for anything. Crushing avoidance, high stamina etc were all eventually given to other classes. High threat you say? if we become the clear choice for high threat encounters other classes will be balanced to get that. |

| | I read a rumor that the Devs haven't been working on warriors and they are now getting back to working on them. If they change warriors the way they changed paladins over the last few beta patches I don't think you'll be able to recognize talent trees and talents, cause I know some of the pally ones underwent huge overhauls for usability and function. |

| | Pft, any PvE MS warrior or even some PVP warriors use Slam a Lot, to say it isn't used is silly, it's used a lot more than rend and retaliation. I use rend in arenas to keep rogues out of stealth, that leaves... Retaliation. I don't think I"ve hit retaliation since I was level 30 dueling a rogue when it didn't show BIG SWIRLING SWORDS animation around me. |

As for our place in groups, this is really a two sided issue because we can tank or DPS. As for tanking, I get the impression that we're not going to be specialised in any one area of tanking but instead be solid in all the different areas. They've already given us some useful AOE threat ability (Shockwave, Bloodbath), a decent, if somewhat confusing OT ability (Vigilance), improved on our already good threat (itemisation changes, Shockwave again, abilities scaling with AP) and tried to improve our mitigation a bit too (Shield Block change, Critical Block). As for DPS on the other hand we haven't gotten much love so far (we mainly meaning Fury because that's my spec ), just some questionable sort-of-PVP talents. I don't imagine using Heroic Leap at all in raiding, and the way the trees are now it's in my best interests not to take it (or Titan's Grip) at all if the word about Titan's Grip is to be believed. Now is the best time to speak up about these things, before they go changing things so they have a better idea of what we need and what we want from our talent trees and skills. That's why I posted this.

| | The actual new talents are okay, except some are not MT talents. The new talents for other classes are obviously, if not MT related, tanking related. Regardless, we definitely got a sizable threat boost in the changes, not through NEW talents, just reworking of old stuff. Therefore when looking at the prot tree, one actually sees a lot fewer buffs than the devs have actually added in terms of threat. The major thing is that we are no longer really an option as the progression tank on the hard hitting bosses over druids, spare some form of gimmick. With crushing blows that was a spot we fit well in. Without crushing blows, the math just doesn't work out that you'd want anything but a druid on hard hitters. That's a tough pill to swallow frankly. |
