How many times will you run into a wall head first to find out something isn't working?

In the raiding business I am guessing that happens quite a bit. And a lot of times for the right reasons, too. A great deal about learning a certain fight is stabilizing each phase going through the motions and perfecting them. I've seen people compare a raiding team to an orchestra, and that comparison isn't too far off. I like that careful approach to learning a new encounter since it maximises the chance your team is about to repeat its performance the next week without too much trouble.

Yesterday night we finally got our pally his legendary mace. The sad part about it was that we spent about 3-4 weeks wiping on yogg-saron with 3 watchers up thinking we were perfecting our strategy and execution while all we had to do was take a step backwards and ask ourselves what the hell made us wipe in phase 3 with too much adds up.

It took 2 heartfelt shout outs in raidchat to make the people in charge read up on the mechanics once more. Our problem was the adds eventually simply overrunning us. When we decided to simply drag the marked adds out of the other bunched up adds phase 3 instantly stabilised and it was a kill. Of course we've had plenty of training on the execution so it's not really odd we nailed it. What I would like to pass on is this: Always keep an eye out for the problems your team is having with the encounter. If you've got near perfect execution but somehow you hit a brick wall, take a step back and see what the hell is really going on. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Expect another blog in a day or two, until then;

Be well,

Aethelas

    Sometimes it's tricky to take a step back and re-assess things from a blank start, no good saying "we always do this so it must be right" sometimes you have to turn things on their head to figure out the "fatal flaw" - grats to your pally - I hope he enjoys blowing bubbles as much as our one does

    Indeed!

    And so far I'm liking the bubbles... It reassures me he's actually punching out heals instead of polishing his mace... One more month and I'll start to curse the visual *nods*

    Yup, had the same problem while we were trying Algalon. Thankfully the brickwall there has neon lighting on it. Once we started going past the first bang with everybody alive but wiping seconds later, we did spare 10 minutes of extremely precious time to redo the strategy. The kill came in next lockout.
