So, the last week has been interesting.

After an amazingly successfull recruitment campaign to pick up some new players. I find myself leading a guild that have a real chance of getting going.

On Sunday, as our first raid as the new look Our Souls, we achieved our first 1 night Naxx Clear, Monday Seen us passing Flame Leviathan, XT-OO2 and hitting Kolagarn for the first time in Ulduar. I have faith that with the talent and skill that we have picked up, we can get Ulduar cleared, drop Naxx completely(except for off night badge farming) and Hit ToTC before ICC is launched.

However, it's not all easy sailing. 2 Of the officers in the guild are being less than helpful. I had complaints recently that people hadn't been doing enough and have decided that certain people are being moved to Guild Members(remeber, I inherited this guild from a GM who gave Officer "privelages" easily) As a parting shot, these 2 have raised concerns about "Tank Rotations".

It wouldn't annoy me if they had genuine concerns, but these 2 recently started signing up on Tanks, having been DPS before. I really want to try and accomadate people with a more casual playstyle, but the days of having to ask in Guild chat at raid time for an extra DPS or a tank are well and truley over, and I think this is there problem, as it allowed them the flexibilty to hold back from siging up.

these two "officers" out of no where want to switch from dps to tanks? are they already geared out as dps and just want more gear? do you have established tanks already?

I know you want to accommodate everyone.. but I think the only way to really get going is to take care of the players with the best attendance and most skill first. work in the others when you can but mention it to them that its hard to bench someone who shows up all the time for someone who cant make our raid schedule.

Main question you need to ask is: do you need more tanks? It's generally a good idea to have about, oh, 4 tanks and rotate them in and out. This is so the tanks don't get burnt out. The ones that are not tanking, can offspec to dps or heals, as they wish. Usually you won't need more than 2 tanks, but sometimes you will need more. Always plan ahead.

It depends on if raid attendance holds. If you have a set of tanks who turn up to a casual raid roster 90% of the time, then you only need 1 or 2 people who are also willing to tank and have reasonably up-to-date gear for the content who you can rotate in if the need presents itself.

Let me preface this next part, we had what seemed to be a casual schedule (3 days a week) but we were able to clear Sunwell.
When I was helping run my BC guild, just for examples sake, say we were going to go kill Illidan, we always had 2 tanks who would always turn up and be reliable (including myself). Unfortunatly, our 3rd tank was constantly changing because people left, got burnt out or just acted like idiots. Make sure that you have the resources to cover the other tank space in your raid (numbers will be different of course, we only needed to run with 3 traditional tanks for Illidan).
DPS is obviously easiest to cover because of every class being able to fill that role to some degree.

If I was in your shoes, I would ask the 2 officers why they want to be tanks and basically do an psudo-interview to get their experience as a tank etc. If you have more qualified other tanks (especially new ones that applied as tanks) then tell the officers that you need them as DPS. Be firm with them, even if they are officers. They need to understand that as you have just done a recruitment drive which i am sure they took part in, you have actually filled the spots that they now want.

Also, I wish you the best of luck!
