so,maybe its just lately.but i think ive ran into the same problem playing my feral druid that i had back in the day when i made a rogue and pvped with it

it seems like, whenever i do a bg.half the time is spent walking up to someone and watching 5 other people take him down before i get to him because im prowling trying to not be seen or whatever.and i know dps wise,i was gonna try out boomkin and from what ive looked at fire mages overall look better anyway

but anyways, according to the thread i was reading it seemed like blood elf was the best race but i dont know.im just wondering because i made a undead but im only like lvl 5 and didnt plan on lvling it seriously until i got boas anyway.oh yeah, horde race not alliance

actually, from what ive looked up it seems like goblin is.but i was wondering about fire mages is this right? im normally used to playing melee dps but i thought casters couldnt cast while moving at the same time

"Fire Mobility Fire can use every spell in its arsenal while moving except for Fireball. While moving continue casting as normal, but use Scorch in place of any Fireball casts. Never stop casting!"

im thinkin about goin fire unless i hate it or im complete fail at it.then im goin arcane cuz its like a 3 button rotation

Class (and talent specialisation) has more to do with PvP success than race; whether ranged or melee, a class has to have good mobility and snares (either for a defensive or offensive purpose) to do well... if you creep around in stealth a lot you have the advantage of being able to pick your fights, but you wont be able to get as many kills as another player who runs into the thick of battle or engages all enemies in range. Orcs are the best choice for any class with a focus on pets, ie. unholy DK, beastmaster hunter, demonology warlock, plus they have reduced stun durations and a damage buff on CD... blood elves can be good for situations where having one more interrupt/silence is all you need to get the edge over a spellcaster. The other races all have their own abilites that are useful in PvP so there is no wrong choice; trolls are good for spellcasters when you need to get off a few spells with cast-times quickly; goblins have both offensive and defensive racial CDs, taurens one offensive, undead one defensive.

Best race is troll. goblin is a close second. And ultimately it will come down to if they prefer passive bonuses or on use bonuses. Troll's haste CD is just that a CD and due to mage's bursty nature of damage trolls IMO edge out.

Yes and at the same time no. Fire can technically only cast scorch while moving. The rest of our spells are instant casts (that you will generally use).

Secondly this quote sounds like it was from the cata beta realms when scorch was edging out fireball in dps. Scorch is a dps loss. You should only use it to keep up 5% crit and when moving, and then you don't want to be running all over because lolicancastandmovelolol your still losing dps.

i perfer passive bonuses

and that qoute came from the fire mage thread on elitistjerks,so im assuming it was up to date

"Orcs are the best choice for any class with a focus on pets"

so orc would be the best race then? cuz i plan on pvping frost and i know frost uses a pet but i also plan on pveing though(nothing outside of heroics though).although the racial for pets doesnt say mage though, cuz my main is a orc and the command racial passive says death knight, hunter, warlock pets

but i know the top geared mage according to guildox is a troll though

Im not sure if the orc racial applies to mage pets; I made a level 1 orc mage to look at it and it just said 5% to pets, no specific mention of classes.

I have no idea if a frost mage's elemental makes up a significant portion of its damage anyway, although I see no reason why orc wouldnt be a good race for mage; all its other racials are solid. You cant really pin too much on what race the 'best geared' mage player is, because at the end of the day its the skill of the player which makes the biggest difference, not the presence or absence of a racial ability.

so racial abilities dont really make that much of a difference then? cuz i thought they kinda did,i guess if they dont then ill just make a undead cuz ive always liked the apperance of undead

The skills needed to succeed at playing a frost mage are what you will need to master before racial traits will make much difference; its always good to know what your options are and how to best take advantage of them, but you cant make that kind of determination unless you already know how to play the class pretty well, because how else would you identify what aspect of your playstyle can benefit most from a minor tweak?

Orc : extra damage from pet, extra damage on CD, reduced stun duration
Undead : escape from CC
Blood Elf : extra mana + silence/interrupt at close range
Troll : haste buff on CD
Goblin : passive haste buff, extra damage on CD, extra movement on CD (+cheaper items from vendors & remote bank : not helpful in combat but nice to have)

Looking at this; all these races have different benefits to offer a mage... which one is most useful is something you can only determine by spending a lot of time playing a mage. I dont play a mage myself so I cant comment on how useful a short casting-speed buff is vs. a smaller but constant haste buff or vs. a short damage buff or an extra silence/interrupt; they all seem to have potential application in certain situations.

I would suggest that you wont be disappointed by the undead racial, because being able to break CC is a very useful PvP-oriented ability particularly in arenas. In battlegrounds, you wont get to use it as often (if you stay near your allies you can generally stay clear of melee and nuke, CC + snare from a distance) but it can still save your bacon when you do have cause to use it.

In my opinion, it really just depends on what you prefer. I love goblin for example, because of their racials. (Discount and rocket ftw) but anyways, for mage I would reccomend blood elf because of their racials... and they just make good casters in my opinion ;)

The Water Elemental for frost mages is really just a portable backup CC-machine. They do very little damage comparatively, but the at-range frost nova is just plain sexy. I like the troll idea though. Berserk is a beautiful racial that makes me occasionally rethink my unwillingness to play Horde. Yeah. It's that good.

As a Troll, you also have Da Voodoo Shuffle, which "Reduces the duration of all movement impairing effects by 15%"

As others have said though, racials won't make or break a PvPer. If you like Undead, playing an undead mage will not put you at a disadvantage. Every article I've ever read that discussed racials and weighed them against each other, has come to the conclusion that ultimately the difference isn't big enough to warrant skipping your favourite race for.
