I have moved away from PvE into more Arena PvP so I have switched to Arms and I am noticing a lot less damage from Slam since 4.1.

I thought the best way to clarify the issue would be some target dummy parse review.

Boss Target Dummy Results: WoL Parse (http://www.worldoflogs.com/reports/4imwryg8szlxenk5/details/6/)
448s of active time with nothing but Battle Shout (no CS usage or any other CDs at all to better compare Slam damage with other abilities) total of 5,381,570 damage done

Mortal Strike - 1,357,500 (25.2%)

65, Average hit: 11,573.5
23, Average crit: 26,314.1

Slam - 1,124,969 (20.9%)

86, Average hit: 12,145.4
3, Average crit: 26,820.3

Overpower - 1,096,515 (20.4%)

30, Average hit: 8,535.7
43, Average crit: 19,545.2

Heroic Strike - only used it once for fun, the single hit (non-crit) was for 6,372

Lvl 85 Target Dummy Results: WoL Parse
(http://www.worldoflogs.com/reports/piajj562ci0pl7qs/details/0/) 367s of active time again with nothing but Battle Shout (No CS or other CD use of any kind) total damage done of 4,697,550

Mortal Strike - 1,109,473 (23.6%)

53, Average hit: 11,858.7
18, Average crit: 26,720.2

Slam - 1,088,434 (23.2%)

73, Average hit: 12,325.9
7, Average crit: 26,949.3

Overpower - 966,594 (20.6%)

18, Average hit: 8,543.4
41, Average crit:19,824.7

Heroic Strike - only used it once for fun, the single hit (non-crit) was for 6,524

I was under the impression that Slam (http://www.wowhead.com/spell=1464) used to hit for substantially more then any other ability when talented with 2 points in Imp Slam including Mortal Strike (http://www.wowhead.com/spell=12294) however this testing seems to show it is virtually the same as MS with only slightly higher damage. I also notice that it seems to basically NEVER crit which seems very odd when compared with MS. Is Slam supposed to have a much lower crit chance then MS?

Currently, improved Slam tooltip is showing: 2814

Anyone have any details on what it was pre-4.1? I thought it was over 200% previously and don't know if it is simply bugged tooltips or if Slam has actually been nerfed because it sure doesn't seem to be hitting as hard as it used to and has nothing to do with the CS nerf.

i've always seen slam and MS damage very close to each other in damage. MS pulled slightly ahead once i got 2pc.

Cruelty (http://www.wowhead.com/spell=12852) increases MS crit chance by 10%, and Glyph of Slam (http://www.wowhead.com/item=43423) only increases Slam crit chance by 5% (I'm assuming you're using it). Maybe that's the difference?

I have noticed that slam does not live up to the assurances of several experienced arms warriors; looking at my damage parses, out of slam, MS & OP, OP usually has the highest average damage, not surprising as it crits around 70% of the time for me. MS had the highest damage per hit, and slam did maximum damage lower than MS but higher than OP. Mind you, this is taken from raid boss encounters not dummies, where I wouldnt use recklessness or switch to berserker stance for executing which would inflate the MS damage slightly since slam and OP arent used at all beyond -20% boss health.

Slam does still contribute to a lot of my overall damage though, and performs better than heroic strike, so Im not going to stop using it at any point.

Usually Slam will make up for less of our damage because we don't use it before we use Overpower or MS. It not only has a cast time but it also costs more rage than Overpower and doesn't give us LttS like MS.

That said, if I don't want to have to rely on looking for my OP proc during a vital burn burst(thinking about Arenas/Rated BGs here), I've done well ignoring Overpower entirely after using Deadly Calm + Reck and just do CS(if not up) > MS > Slam + HS. Using Recklessness devalues the extra crit chance of Overpower and the higher damage of Slam pays off, plus I know I won't be wasting time by mashing OP when it's not up. It gives you reliability and consistency.
