View Full Version : Tanking LF Constructive Criticism and Advice

I am in a semi-hardcore guild that is currently 11/12 (norm). As we only raid 2 days a week, progression is fairly important, as is me not screwing up and making sure I am on top of my theorycrafting.

We will be starting HMs soon, so I am looking for some advice on gear, spec, gems and reforging. I have read so many contradicting arguments on the forementioned it's hard to tell the who might be right or wrong, or even on the right track.

I'm the off-tank in the raid, therefore my spec and gearing should be toward that aspect of raiding.

TL;DR version: Check out my armory and give advice on my setup as you would per any off-tank in a semi-hardcore progression guild about to start HMs.

- I'd gem for pure mastery in yellow sockets if you're raiding 10s and for 25s you can pick the stamina route if you want to for heroic modes.
- Reforge expertise away instead of avoidance and migitation values, you don't need 26 expertise any longer. For dropping 11 expertise you'll gain ~ 1.5% avoidance and for gemming the mastery route you should get another 1.5% block.
- your trinket.. i hope it's just a second one and you've the Mirror banked? If not start a ticket right now, you really want 400 resitance on a one minute cooldown for all those magic bursts flying around instead of ~4% dodge trinket. Especially for your next step of progression, Nefarian.
- Enchant wrist: dodge
- Talents: drop Gag Order for Incite
- Glyphs: drop Intimdating for Demo Shout, this saves you some globals on the long run

Our main tank is worried I won't have enough hit rating to tank the adds on Nef... What should I aim for? Hit rating on the scope/gun work for Shockwave and TC?

klausi - Thanks for the tips! I have written them down and will implement ASAP as they sound like very good advice.

Hey, even tho im not a warrior but a paladin i do tank adds on nef aswell, personly ive never experiensed problems due to the lack of hit, and the only reason id imagine you would get a problem is due to rage issues but im not getting the impression that, that is your consern, but more than your abilities hit.

PS. yes scope/gun should work for extra hit raiting if i understod it correctly, if i dident i do very much apolegise.

It's not for the phase 3 skeletons, it's for phase 2 interrupts if you play 10s. Until 4.1 you'll need 5% hit (mobs are lvl 85, thats 600 hit rating) for your interrupt not to miss.

How to (you can buy those reputation epics a second time so you don't have to reforge/enchant back and forth):
- Wrap of the great Turtle (http://www.wowhead.com/item=62383) - 50 hit (via reforging)
- Sandguard Bracers (http://www.wowhead.com/item=62449) - 134 hit (44 hit via reforging, 40 hit via blacksmithing gem, 50 hit via enchant)
- Belt of the Ferocious Wolf (http://www.wowhead.com/item=62384) - 140 hit (60 via reforging, 80 via gems)
- any 346 weapon, preferable with hit and enchanted with a weapon chain (another 40 hit). You can swap it in for phase 2, combined with your shield for another 127 hit rating.
- hit food

Hit on scope only works on ranged hit attacks like thunderclap, heroic throw and shockwave

Elixir of Impossible Accuracy also gives 225 hit rating. That and hit food gets you halfway to 5%. Use Elixir of Deep Earth for your guardian elixir and you should be gtg

Out of curiosity, why did you get the Unsolvable Riddle trink?
