I'm wondering if the hit rating and % on your character sheet includes whatever hit you get from talents?

For example, as a rogue if I have 10% hit on my character sheet, and then take 3/3 in precision (http://www.wowhead.com/spell=13843), does this give me 16% hit overall?

yes. my rogue has 11% spell hit from gear, the precision talent puts me up to 17%.

Cool thanks. Reason I ask is that I was just checking out the patch notes and saw this:

The Haste display on the Character Info window (C) now shows the total haste percentage, rather than only haste from haste rating.

Made me wonder why they were only doing that for haste and whether or not they'd already done something similar for hit.

easy way to test this is to get naked and see how much hit is displayed on your character sheet...

Didn't think of that. Thanks. Now you've given me a good excuse to get naked and dance in the Auction House for $$s.

In case anyone else has the same question I tried the get naked thing the other night.

With 3/3 points in precision I had 0% hit. As soon as I equipped a single weapon my hit went up to 6.3%. The 0.3% came from the weapon, and the 6% from precision. So hit talents to seem to be included on your character sheet so long as you have gear equipped.

Increases your chance to hit with weapon and poison attacks by 6%.

My guess is that the reason your hit didn't show up until you put on a weapon was because it only increases hit with weapon attacks, this doesn't count unarmed, so with zero gear on you shouldn't have 6% hit. It probably varies per class, if there's a caster that gets spell hit, they can probably have that hit without anything equipped.

i know with frost DKs the +hit talent says "with one handed weapons" so if i'm unarmed or have a 2h weapon on my hit would be 5%, if i equip an single 1h weapon (or both) my hit immediately jumps to 8%. probably the same for rogues/warriors

A guildie is convinced that hit is integer based (so having 7.9% hit means you actually have a 1% miss chance until you cover the last 0.1%). I believe it to be otherwise (with 7.9% showing on the character sheet, you only have a 0.1% miss chance).

Which is correct?

it's nto integer based, as far as we can tell, the Die that is rolled is a 10000 sided die, meaning 100.00% various combat logs can prove that other aspects of the combat log in very large datasets converge to the appropriate number within the .01 degree.

easiest way people tested this was going from 7.9% hit to 8.0% and logging over 100k swings, and noticing that you occasionally got a miss on 7.9 but none on 8.0. likewise you could go from 7.9% swing 100k times, then stop, reduce hit to 7.0% and swing 100k times, and notice the delta.

I think he got it wrong at some time. It used to be the case that pets inherited only the integer part of ones hit but even that is not the case anymore from what I heard.

You'll likely have taken 3/3 Precision, in which case you should only aim for 1127 hit rating. Read the guide below for all the information you could ever want on Combat.
