so hai iam new to this forum and i really like it so far :) lots of good advice and theory crafts.

so i was thinking iam currently using http://www.wowhead.com/item=51869 (The Facelifter) for tanking and its doing fine.

i just got http://www.wowhead.com/item=50692 (Black Bruise) and it got me wondering.

would Black Bruise be better for tanking even tho i might loose some mitigation and stam?
i mean the dmg output of this baby is just marvelous and the effect on it works really great in ICC aswell (60k+ shield slams ftw yo)

what are you're thoughts? should i go with Black Bruise instead of The Facelifter ?

and how would the rage regeneration be with a that slow wep? (yeah i like still spamming heroic strike :) )

Well, if you are tanking then your rage gen comes from either getting pummeled or blocking attacks (shield spec.).... so rage gen isn't really an issue.

The main difference that you should notice is how hard Heroic strike hits, and how hard Devastate hits.

If you don't have threat issues, it's not necessary. If you don't have survival issues, it won't hurt.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't HS Attack Power based? I believe only Devastate and Rend are affected by weapon speed.

Weapon speed is relevant, but it's not a huge deal. If you're having survivability issues, take the fast tanking weapon. If you're not, the slow dps weapon is fine too.

Another question, thoughts on the above mentioned Black Bruise vs Bloodvenom Blade (http://www.wowhead.com/item=50672) which I currently use?

Because the weapon is slower the weapon damage will be higher and presumably it has attack power or crit on it. I can't view the weapons at work though...

Basically the assumption is that slower weapon = higher weapon damage. So any ability (like devastate) that goes off of weapon damage will be scaled up with a higher damage (slower) weapon.

Right, but Heroic Strike isn't based on weapon damage. The only 2 prot warrior abilities that are based on weapon damage are devastate and rend, I believe.

Then if the weapon has no AP or strength on it heroic strike will be unaffected..... Again, I can't view the weapons at work. O.o

ok thanks for the replies.

i dont have any survivability problems at all since most of my gear is 277.
i guess ill stick with facelifter and use Black Bruise for trash packs for the extra Rend dmg and the proc effect :)
