Hey guys tinytankz again this time with a guide to use and abuse that LFD tool to get your tank raid ready. This guide is for prot warriors but can be utilized by palidans and of course to a lesser extent DK's i dont want to bulk them in with warriors as I dont play them and can offer nothing other than general tanking tips (EH wins every time)

The 2 ilevel 232's falric's and rimefangs are great weapons and Really either or will work for a great pre-raid set (i reccomend getting both )The hidden gem here is that peacekeeper, the bonus stats on all the items like defense dodge and parry are nearly the same, even as we climb from 219-232 but, the blade has a socket allowing you to sacrifice str for whatever stat you choose, in the beginning you may need to socket it with defense to meet the minimum but the blade can have nearly 100stam and is the best item for EH on this list.

The Crafted is a WONDERFUL starting spot as it has gobs of stamina and lots of defense the 2 things every starting tank is valued upon(aka players look at your health and care if you are critimmune) The 245 emblem helm is BiS preraid and the Tier helm is tied with the drop. Your best bet here is to farm some gold and have a titansteel waiting for you and then grab any upgrades that come but, work torwards the 245 helm and get the executioners if it drops block sets make heriocs a joke and since you are going to be doing them alot lets just build the set now.

To start you need the emblem ring and one other so which to get? The drop from Trial is amazing and teh second vendor is viable for people with bad luck. Some of you savvy players notice an old ring from when saphiron was hard the frostgaurd ring. i put it here for lack of drops and the pure stam potential of the ring (to a warrior with 3 points in vitality it is nearly 1.4k hp alone) but, shouldn't really be used unless you just need a filler ring when you ding 80.

Those who have been paying attention will notice that i have included 2 blue items here and they are the only two blue items linked. To start one of the reasons is that the black heart is almost required and it is a hard to get drop for some so the essence of gossamer is next best. Also Ick's Rotting thumb is fantastic for an avoidance set but, at EH it is not even on the radar. The Lavanthors talisman is something every warrior should have in his bag. The block rating is HUGE and is almost essential in building a block set. So get the black hearth and the glyph but, fill in with anything you can get to start.

To begin with i recommend getting as many items before you start this grind refer to the crafted section of each slot and the AH watch list. remember to gear up for each step. Pre-Naxx Heroics need only leveling blue tank gear gemmed and such to stay crit immune. Trial of the Champion is only slightly more demanding (mostly ilevel 200's equipped). After that is Heroic Trial of the champion and Normal ICC dungeons which need all item level 200's mixed with emblem gear. Heroic ICC dungeons can be difficult and should be attempted by players who have sufficiently geared with emblems and normal ICC dungeon drops.

Quick Tips:
1.As you are gearing pay attention to the weekly it can be lower content that you can get into with relative ease.
2.Talk to your guild they may be able to carry you through Naxx10 or Ulduar25 to help you gear.
3.Always Pay attention to your group in these random pugs especially your healers mana.
4.Be willing to learn if this is your first character some of the dungeon tricks will be unknown to you so just ask your group.
5.Repair and stock up on pots/food after every dungeon so you wont need to port out.

Paladins would want the same gear as a warrior, DKs would be the same except they want 2 handers instead (most of the time). The only other difference is the ranged/relic slot, which are all vendor items IIRC.

Also I wouldn't put the frost ring priority after the Cluth since there are two other options, the Mark of the Relentless since it is a blue socket with a bonus it is only 6 stam behind the frost ring and it's plethora of avoidance, expertise and strength makes up for the 6 stamina, also the heroic DTK's ring with the extra armor gives it about an additional 45 stamina of pure EH.

I would agree here. Even with the somewhat difficult aspect of gaining access to the other rings there are better options here. There are two 245+ BoE Ring drops and several 226-200 rings still available for purchase. Harbinger's Bone Band (http://www.wowhead.com/item=50447) will be fairly in the expensive range on most servers. However, Signet of the Traitor King (http://www.wowhead.com/item=47149) is seen quite often on the AH due to the terrific number of ToC25 pugs being run. You can also look for rings such as Signet of the Earthshaker (http://www.wowhead.com/item=45247), Signet of Winter (http://www.wowhead.com/item=45874) and with the sheer number of people doing weekly raid quests and/or going back to zerg 3d you can also find Signet of the Accord (http://www.wowhead.com/item=40426). Most of which should be at the relative price of a Titanium Frostguard Ring (http://www.wowhead.com/item=43582). I'll be honest here ... if you tried to walk into an ICC10 as an Offtank with that Frostguard ring on you'd be laughed out of the instance by most people. Hell even in ToC10 you would be.

One other thing to note, going headlong into the Heroic ICC 5mans is a bad place to push newer tanks to go to. It should be something they strive to be ready for. Hell, even Heroic ToC5 is pushing it until you truly have a bit of gear under your belt as a tank. Making sure people understand they should NOT go and try to queue for Halls of Reflection to get that axe from Falric before they are capable is a good thing. People already avoid the instance like the plague, getting queued into it with a tremendously undergeared warrior tank is not doing anyone any good.

As for comments/nitpicks on the "guide" itself. It would be a tremendous improvement if you actually listed the instance and boss each dropped off of instead of relying on people to click the wowhead link. Ranking items from best to worst in terms of some value would also be helpful say in terms of EH, but not necessary since most of that is found elsewhere. Lastly, I would rename the guide to use Dungeon Finder or LFG tool, because LFD is not exactly what its called, nor do I know of anyone would uses the term. (Just a nitpick, but yeah, I had to click the link to figure out wth you were talking about). Its not really a guide to use just the Dungeon Finder as you are directing people to crafted and BoE as well.

Thanks a bunch for sharing this gear compilation. I have a warrior tank at 77 now and am starting to build a wishlist for 80 as well.

One thing to note about saronite swordbreakers vs this: the crafted cost 4 crusader orbs (15 emblem of triumph each = 60 emblems) plus 20 saronite, 8 titansteel and the vendor item costs 60 emblem of valor. So unless you have extra emblem of valor for some reason on another character it's not really worth converting 60 triumph emblems to valor.

If you notice the vendor Bracers are BoE meaning you can use your main to farm the emblems (or if you have emblems floating around on old guys) and then send them to your warrior i personally wuold never farm emblems on the warrior for them but if have been an avid raider you sometimes find yourself with lots of old emblems on your characters (especially if you bench them for a bit). Why not use them to help a fresh alt. If the warrior is your one and only high level on teh server (like meh) then just get some sword breakers.

Alos never use emblems for orbs man frozen trades up now. You can spam Trade for 10g a frozen and pay only 240g for your crusader orbs total.

Yea I see that they are BoE. But, if you have a geared 80 already that has nothing else useful to buy with triumph emblems, it's pointless to buy the BoE bracers because you could use the emblems to buy the 4 crusader orbs for the superior crafted bracers. Why spend 60 triumph emblems on the BoE bracers when you're going to eventually buy 4 crusader orbs 20 saronite and 8 titansteel for the crafted bracers anyway? Save yourself the gold, use the emblems that you're not going to use anyway on crusader orbs and get the crafted bracers.

I don't understand why you only include the ICC crafted legs, but not the ICC crafted feet or the ICC vendor cloak, trinket, waist, gloves, chest - seems if one ICC piece is being included all should be; although, they're a just a bit beyond introductory.

The Kirin Tor exalted gloves are pretty good tanking gloves also - as are the legs from Argent Crusade (granted they're blue, but they work)

@ the other one Look again no stealth edit either those kingly boots have been up there on the grounds of crafted BOE epics. Frost takes so long to get off of LFD i didnt include it. At that point it isnt a guide for the LFD but a general this gear is still relevant in patch 3.3.3 guide.
Rep peices were not even thought of when i made the list i will rethink them but, that said by the time you use the tabard to hit exalted with a faction you are usually beyond need for said pieces(pre-naxx gearing is what i thought they were more meant torwards anyways)
@kuzoh i can tell you havent been playing since naxx i have a toon with 200 conquest still cant get orbs with those can I? It is meant for laying around emblems some guys have old toons with last tier or tier before of emblems would like to know there are some BoE bracers.
@krc The frost ring is not priority after clutch it is a pre-raid option i listed due to massive amounts of stam on a failry cheap to make or have made ring.
@Jericho You cant use the LFD(Looking for Dungeon the name blizzard gave the tool) to que for things like H:PoS or H:HoR till your gear is of a certain quality in every slot meaning an under-geared tank isnt walking into those using the tool. Also as for the frost ring as a tank in ICC i have one word Sindragosa, that is all

Honor gear is not really a good idea from what i am seeing. if i am wrong someone will tell me so i will wait but tanking i don't see it being an issue.

For cloaks, you might want to add Flowing Cloak of Command to your list seeing as it has a decent amount of defense plus bonus armor and very easy to obtain on the way to 80. The crafted Durable Nerubhide Cape would actually be worse than the cloak of command for a fresh 80 tank still working on reaching 540 defense. Cloak of Peaceful Resolutions is worth mentioning as well.

As far as honor gear goes, Wrathful Gladiator's Cloak of Triumph and Wrathful Gladiator's Cloak of Victory are very real possibilities. They both cost about 52k honor which isn't very hard to obtain (even if you don't pvp at all, if your faction controls wintergrasp for any length of time you'll earn stonekeeper shards from doing high level dungeons which can be converted to honor). Now the real comparison, neglecting all gear obtained in raids, is between these two and the vendor cloak Platinum Mesh Cloak.

So you lose some defense, dodge and parry but pick up more stamina, resilience and hit/crit. As a fresh 80 the hit rating is probably more useful than the crit rating, so take the Wrathful Gladiator's Cloak of Victory.

TL;DR: I'd pick up Flowing Cloak of Command on the way to 80, then buy Wrathful Gladiator's Cloak of Victory as soon as you have enough honor/stonekeeper's shards. Move Platinum Mesh Cloak down the list of vendor item priority (or don't pick it up at all) and buy Sentinel's Winter Cloak as soon as you have enough frost badges [1].

If you do any tanking on your way to 80 you should have a good start on gear to tank heroics to begin with. The two main slots I found hard to fill pre-raid is cloak and ring.

For the ring slot, you want the 245 ring purchased with triumphs, and for the second ring, wear anything until you have the gear to tank for ICC rep runs. I wore the wrathful pvp ring in the second slot for a short period of time until I could get the tanking ring from the Ashen Verdict.

For cloak, I believe the wrathful pvp cloak is the best choice pre-raid and pre-frost emblem cloak. Once you get 50 frost emblems the cloak is probably going to be the first thing you'll want to replace.

If you have the honor to buy the other offpieces and want to get into pvp I'd say go for it, but in my experience gearing up to tank ICC, only the ring and cloak were necessary to buy until I could get into raids.

I can say that when i started heroics at 80 i had the following slots filled with level 80 blues or epics

Head-tempered titansteel
neck- burning skull pendant
cloak- durable nerubihide
bracers-saronitesword breakers
hands-refined ore gloves-
belt- the BoE blue
feet-temepered titansteel
shield-titansteel shieldwall

All the otehr slots were from dungeons or quests but, gemmed and sons of hodir starter enchant i was at 29k hp and uncrittable so i started rocking :D

Thank you sooooo much for this thread! With 7 80s, my new 80 paladin will be my first ever tank and I feel like a complete noob because she leveled Ret spec.

I'm finding it hard to actually reach 535 defense, so this guide is awesome for where to go and what to look for. Just starting out, I have the Nerubhide cape but the Tattered drape has defense so I've included that for now. Also, the EB Toxin-Tempered Sabatons have better values for starting out than the Tempered Titansteel Treads. Both of those pieces are in my bank but not equipped until I'm def capped without them.

All my tank friends are saying I don't dare step into an instance without being def capped so my plan is to run heroics (again) for a tanking T9 set, then start in regular instances until I get the hang of the new rotation.

(http://www.tankspot.com/../showthread.php?60155-aggs-prot-war-tanking-guide) I may add a Gem and enchant section to help out but,it is all very straight forward Stamina is king, and threat is handled via proper use of talents (this is to say that threat issues do not come from not enough hit/expertise they come from improper usage of your threat generating abbilities.) You look to put Hp or armor on everything but i have a certain love for Tuskar's (http://www.wowhead.com/spell=47901) even though you can get a 7 more stam enchant.

Actually it is BIS till raiding (is only beaten by 245 cloak from ToC barely and the frost ones and ones from ICC)

TBH it takes one month for an upgrade if you are not raiding ICC 60 per your 30 days at 2 frost a day, then assuming the weekly isn't to hard to tank (most pugs will still want over geared tanks TBH) you can see another 20, Thats 80 total or one 60 frost piece and a about 2 weeks off a 95 emblem piece like the chest or tier gear. Frost pick is situational and there is no way to put a list in general most people like to grab CSK but forget that pieces like http://www.wowhead.com/item=50978 and http://www.wowhead.com/item=50991 tend to be the better choices. If you have a question as small as which frost upgrade is better feel free to post an armory and ask i will gladly give you my humble opinion.
