View Full Version : Warrior An old T7 geared Warrior trying a come-back...

Hi everyone !

I've been reading the tankspot forums for quite a while. That is, before I actually stopped playing 6 months ago - sometimes before the 3.2 release, meaning I never experienced the Trials of the Coliseum. With Arthas now killable, I decided to pick up my sword again, for a last stand and an ending in a blaze of glory. Well, all epicness set apart, I guess you can catch the idea!

So here I am with both my warlock and my warrior. We are not interested in the first here, as the second is a TANK, and is absolutly NOT ready for duty. That would be the armory link...

As you can see, she's all wrapped in the old T7 (10men) armor, nothing being really higher than the Naxx10 raid. By the time I left the game, she was almost unable to correctly MT in Ulduar. That was sad. So my problem now, is that I've everything to change, in the quickest way I can find. Believe me, I love hanging around reading news and comparing piece of gear, but with so much new things I'm feeling lost. Everyone is talking about the T10 set and the BiS of ICC, while I'm wanting informations about the T9 and the "highest" gear achievable alone or in 5men group...

So :
1 - Is the T9 worth anything? I'm not convinced by the 2 and 4 parts bonus. At all. Maybe something changed, but should I go for non-set instead of T9?
2 - Weapon: I saw 4 available weapons. Falric's Wrist Chopper, Rimefang's Claw, Lucky Old Sun, and Peacekeeper Blade. As an Orc, Falric's axe is good looking, as is Rimefang's Claw. Should I get only one, which should be the priority?
3 - Trinket : Obviously the Black Heart is excellent, yet I don't really know what to put in the second slot...
4 - I will probably figure out by myself where to spend my badges according to how you guys helped me with my first point, yet anything over your head would be welcome :) rings, necklace, cloak...

That was the "physical" part.
Now for the theorical part :
5 - When I left, Avoidance was all the rage. Block was merely a filler, not really worth it unless it was a huge boost with little to no loss in Dodge. Parry was not interesting.
One of the first things that caught my eyes whe I logged in yesterday, was that there was quite a number of gear with Block Value on it. So... Did anything changed here? Is Block worth it now?

Allright I guess that's almost it. Enchantments, I guess I will see by myself once I get valuable pieces of gear, so I'll be good until then. All I really need is a little push in the right direction, so I won't waste too much time doing trials and error with the gear and the new rules of the 3.3 patch...

Sorry if I'm asking something already asked, I'm really lost with all the informations on the forums. And a warm thank you to everyone who will take the time to read this ;)

Upgrading what you've got currently to some of the T9 pieces would be a good idea, but you're right about the 4pc bonus being very...blah...the 2pc however will net you a decent threat boost with the buff to Devastate in 3.3 and a Devastate glyph.

In no particular order, I'd suggest getting: http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47678 , http://www.wowhead.com/?item=48457 , http://www.wowhead.com/?item=48460 , http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47731 , http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47735 the T9 helm and pants are not great, but without raiding you'll have little choice on pants for upgrades.

Use other badges to buy http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47556 and get these crafted: http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47592 , http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47571

Either buy http://www.wowhead.com/?item=45825 by trading in Triumph for Conquest badges, or http://www.wowhead.com/?item=45087#sold-by and craft: http://www.wowhead.com/?item=45551 and http://www.wowhead.com/?item=45560 which are much better than their item level indicates, due to the sockets.

http://www.wowhead.com/?item=50290 is a good weapon choice (mostly because of your Orc expertise racial) despite Block Rating still being very sub-par compared to other tanking stats. http://www.wowhead.com/?item=50268 would be a better choice if you're at/over 26 expertise and not having threat issues, in my opinion.

As far as stat priorities, they're still about the same as when you left. Block Rating / Value are not to be specifically geared for unless it's for a special encounter (Anub'arak 25 add tanking) and Parry still gives less avoidance than Dodge due to DR. Stamina is still great, and with the way ICC bosses are tuned, items with bonus armor are the new thing to covet.

[Edit] I just looked at your talent builds, and noticed you're using Improved Revenge.

This talent is not required anymore since Devastate has been buffed and if you glyph Devastate it easily surpasses the threat of Revenge, allowing you to drop Revenge from your rotation altogether. I'd suggest moving the 2/2 points in Improved Revenge in your survival build for 2/2 Gag Order for the 10% Shield Slam damage also.

One thing Guth left out (nice post btw) - the Valentine's Day boss drops level 226 neckpieces, one of which is a tank piece. It's got the same itemization as your current one, just much more of each stat. I'd suggest doing that boss every day until you get it.

I know Block Value is a fantastic threat stat for prot pallies (despite being crap defensively for tanking raid bosses), I assume it's good for warrior threat as well. I wouldn't seek it out, but it's not bad.

I've seen ToC 10 tanked with gear similar to yours, about 30k unbuffed, and it went fine. I think if you replace a handful of pieces from the new heroics and/or badges, you could tank that no problem - and there is no (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47910) shortage (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47870) of (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47896) upgrades (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47877) in there for ya

The shield block for the T9 4-piece set bonus is fantastic for tanking, especially in ICC without T10 set pieces.

I'm not sure how useful Shield Block is in raids, as I've barely raided. However, in heroics, it's an extremely potent defensive cooldown.

First thing, thank you all for the tips. It's really coming in handy - even if it looks like I had already been doing some small mistakes, like buying the T9 headpiece as my previous helm was one of my bigget flaws.

As I can see, T9 4-pieces bonus efficiency is kind of a matter of taste ; indeed, reducing the cooldown of one of our best skill is attractive, yet for a "4-piece" bonus I found it kinda weak... I guess I will go the Guth way ( thanks man! ) and get the 2 pieces bonus first, then trinkets etc... I will fill whatever spots is left for which nothing has been dropped or crafted when I'm done with the rest. Will give time for me to think, too. Non-set gear is good, but T9 has a slight advantage, when you lack time, because it's a little cheaper / quicker to get.

I will look into the Valentine's day boss thing too, because, you know, coming back during a cross seasonal event was such a good idea when one's kind of lost already ;)

Thanks for pointing out the new devastate : I had read only the "main patch" notes (3.2, 3.3 ), but thoses changes were mostly in the "sub patch" notes ( 3.2.x, etc), so I totally missed that. Indeed, devastate got a nice boost. And here I was wondering why so many warriors I knew had equipped that glyph !

One last thank you to you guys, and if anything else crosses your mind ( or anyone's mind ) I'm still open to your knowledge !
