I decided to roll a DK and leveled up as blood, Much like most other DKs. Well, I got so used to blood that I decided to tank as blood. Tanking is alright all around, I guess. Not great AoE threat compared to other specs, But decent single target threat. My question is, Is it worth learning how to tank as frost or unholy? I don't want to spend weeks getting perfect rotations and talents if it's just going to be the same thing or worse. This is what made me debate switching from Blood.

First of all, I'm pretty sure it gives the most HP out of any DK tank spec.
Second, I've gone solo tank spec and gotten 1800+ HPS on boss fights, Which I don't want to lose.
Third, I hear blood is the best threat single target, Which I'm having issues with. I only seem to be doing above 4k TPS when I'm getting chain Rune Strikes, And I get a lucky chain of crits.

I'd like to hear input from other DK tanks out there that have switched around, So if anybody can sum up some pros and cons of any or all tanking specs, That would be great. Thanks guys!

Blood - best single-target threat (with acceptable AoE threat thanks to DnD and Blood Boil), most health, better cooldown (Vampiric Blood is amazing), some self-healing

Frost - best AoE threat thanks to Howling Blast (with pretty good single-target threat), 3% extra avoidance, 2% overall damage reduction

Unholy tanking is still a big ??? to me. I haven't met one since back when Unholy Blight was an awesome AoE instead of a weak buff to your Death Coil (3.1, that is).

The rotation for Frost isn't much harder than Blood - it's slightly harder to work in your spec-specific cooldown (Unbreakable Armor) but once you make friends with Blood Tap it's not so bad.

No offense, but looking at your gear... how are you having single-target threat issues, as blood no less? I really don't understand, your gear is mostly very nice - spec needs some major work (need to fill out Bloody Vengeance and Abomination's Might, both are crucial threat talents - take some points from Bloodworms, which is pretty useless to a tank)

Thanks for your reply. The reason I have Rune Tap and bloodworms is because I'm tank/tank. My bloodworm and Rune Tap spec is for soloing. I do AQ20, ZG, and Kara every week because I refuse to do dailies. You can see my offspec has the talents filled out with no bloodworms. Threat is usually just an issue in 5 man boss fights. Usually 10 and 25's seem alright, But I've had fire mages in 5 mans do 10k TPS which I'd never keep up with.

Hey, Thanks for the links! Guess I should have looked around a bit more before asking. XD. Frost seems to be one of the best. I very well may choose that one to learn.

You are quit welcome. As to frost being one of the best, all trees are capable of tanking all content to date. Chose the tree that has a style that suits you
