View Full Version : Picking Up Where I Left Off

Long story short: Family problems, stopped playing WoW, come back, Guild is gone, most people I played with gone, not sure where to start again.

The World of Warcraft Armory (http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Silvermoon&n=Ghroak)

I am looking to start doing heroics again, for loot/badges. I obviously still need alot of work before I consider even stepping foot as a tank in any raid (I have OT'd Naxx like twice, never been to Uld+).

Just looking to get back in the swing of things and need a bit of direction :) Would be much obliged!

Perfect timing. Patch 3.3 is just about to roll out, maybe even this coming Tuesday Dec 8th if Bliz can solve the last major bugs (http://www.wow.com/2009/12/01/patch-3-3-set-to-conditionally-release-next-week/). All H 5mans will be upgraded to drop Triumph Emblems, currently the highest lvl badges in the game (3.3 will introduce Frost Emblems as the new highest).

So head on over to the Horde Triumph Quartermaster (http://www.wowhead.com/?search=emblem+of+triumph+quartermaster) (at Dalaran and Argent Tournament) and Triumph Vendor (http://www.wowhead.com/?search=triumph+vendor) (only at Argent Tournament), make a shopping list of all the tank and dps (and pvp if you do that) gear that is purchasable w/ Triumph Emblems (Triumph Emblems only, not Triumph Emblem (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47241) + Trophy of the Crusade (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=47242)) then farm the hell out of H 5mans for a few weeks until you've got it all.

Pugging 5mans will be very easy in 3.3 due to the much improved LFG system that pairs you cross-realm (within same battlegroup), ports you to the instance, ports you back where you started, pays you around 22g per pug, and gives 2 Frost Emblems per day (on your first H 5man of the day, Triumph Emblems after).

Do that and you'll be back up to par, gearwise, in no time. After that it'll be much easier getting into raids, guilds, and getting opportunities to tank again.

Your best use of the time between now and the patch is probably to not farm heroics, but to level your professions. Most half-serious raiding guilds want to see commitment to a character in the form of maxed professions (at least the 2 main ones + cooking + first aid), since that signals it's your main rather than an alt. Though getting familiar with the 5mans again couldn't hurt.
