View Full Version : Tanking with SoM?

My friend is a palatank that just joined a 25-man guild with me (we were a 10-man guild before), and the paladin class leader is asking him to change talents to a never-seen build, and to tank with SoM with a priority rotation. My friend has some doubts about that...
This is my friend:
The World of Warcraft Armory (http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Sanguino&n=Roscharch)
He uses that talents, a 969 rotation and SoV for tanking.
This is the class leader:
The World of Warcraft Armory (http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-talents.xml?r=Sanguino&n=Menin&group=1)
That talents, using a priority rotation and SoM for tanking. He also says that tanking with SoM generates ~30% more threat than using SoV.

If you want a Paladin tank that wants to be subject more to faceplants upon the floor, I would also ask him to switch to SoM. SoV should be sufficient enough to maintain aggro without any avoidable mistakes.

The only place i saw that recommended SoM for tanking was wowwiki. Paladins in my experience, admittedly not the level of that class leader's, don't have big threat issues.
96969 has been shown to have the least clash and wasted GCDs.

only thing i can think of to say : "y would u want to do more damage to urself when everything else is already damaging u and y would u want to stress ur healers out that way - all for minimal threat gains?"

New guild ... pronto!
If you have a "special" build in wow for any class and a "special" way to do things, its not special at all, just plain wrong!
The numbers don't lie and can't be wiggled. Things are popular, such as tanking with SoV or specific talent specs, for a reason - they work!
I saw this pre-bc on my warlock. I joined an MC guild after re-rolling from horde in my greens and some lucky blues. I outdmged all the locks with the same build, who were in full felheart gear. After the raid I was asked to switch to demonology - the idiot spec of warlocks (pre-bc of course). It could be he wants to look less terrible... whatever the reason though, its wrong to have someone switch and comprimise their personal integrity in the game.

Maintankadin • Index page (http://maintankadin.failsafedesign.com) has gone over and over the SoB vs SoV. No matter how you slice it SoV is superior unless you gear completely weird for SoB.
