Armor Design Woes

In the light of the - to me - very disappointing T8 pally set design I played around a bit with WoWhead's comparison tool and it's 'View in 3D' option. My intent was to put the design for warrior and paladin sets side by side.

These are the results:

Of course it is silly to talk about 'realistic' in the WoW toon armor context, but it strikes me that the armor sets that I like do actually look like plate armor - heavy, metallic. The blue foam/plastic T5 and the cloth/plastic T8 are exceptionally far off the 'plate armor' mark.

Looking at the warrior sets, while one can argue about the various blades, spikes and wings, each set looks like heavy metal:

Due to it's horrible BV itemisation which is useless in Ulduar, the T8 set looks are largely irrelevant for pally tanks. If I toss my wishlist into the 3D viewer, this is what I get - Conclusion: wannabe warrior. =]

I'm not in big love with Siegebreaker, but have to wear it :D However I agree that paly gear fall behind Warrior in terms of plate, you can add to comparison even DK sets that are more then imba as they are now.

On the other hand you had Judgement (I know it's not on "MAKE IT PLATE" subject) but it's one of the "best ever" looking sets in history of wow.

That does look much better than the color job they gave the model for the tier set. Amazing what a difference the textures make. I can't help but notice that these textures are also looking more 'metal'. =]

I think it would also help if they would experiment with more lamellar shoulders again. They really like this sci-fi show Bicycle helmet as shoulderpad concept.

Yeah alent... but all the armor looks nice on BE Females... their tiny slender bodies...

I loved the crystalforge recolor...

T4 and T6 were also not bad, IMO. And I kinda liked 10man T7.


What I don't understand is T8... it looks like Shammy gear. IMO pallies should have gotten something that looked like what priests got, but more armored.

If you think you have it bad, the Undead mages look like hobos in their T8 set.

In fact, one of the mages got a tell - the random individual was wondering why he was a warrior running around Orgrimmar with a Turning Tide.
