View Full Version : Avoidance vs. Health

Since BC I have always been big on avoidance, I figure, why have the hps to take a shot, when you can avoid it. But lately some tanks that have a little more hps, less avoidance than me, are outliving me in some boss fights. I am always the main tank in raids we do, naxx 25 and ulduar 10 being the best we're capable of. Below is my armory, any tips on spec/gear/gem changes would be great. My tps is exceptionally high, so no threat tips please =P.

Since you are in DPS gear... put tank gear on and use your CDs.

MT's are usually geared for effective health and surviving big hits which progression boss tend to use. High avoidance is good as a MT if your health pool can stay high. Me personally am at 33k unbuffed 25% dodge 19% parry and 23ish% block hit capped and semi on exp(I use exp. pots). I think my avoidance is fairly decent but not high. Now being a JC/Miner/Draenei, I get to focus more on avoidance and stam. I'm fully naxx25 geared with about 6 pieces from Ulduar(4 from 10m and 2 from 25m) with dual stam trinkets.
I'd like to think of myself as a mesh of threat/EH/Avoid builds all in one, since in my guild we don't have a set MT, we all switch around and tank everything as a rotating core.
Hope this helps some.
Take up Mining
Take up Blacksmithing or JC (you can get monarch crab (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=44063)).
275 health enchant of your chest
22 stam enchant on your boots (who cares about mobilty when you can charge)
Change the parry/Def gem in your chest for another stam/def (parry is bad)
Get some stam trinkets
Change your spec to something like this (http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#LVZhg00xZVItRx0zVdIzsGo) and use commanding shout more.
According to Rawr now your health is 30.5k health unbuffed.
