Hey there. I have been tanking ever since I made 60 on my warrior back when BWL was the Shit. Anyhow I have been playing my death knight since WOLK came out. I enjoy his diversity.
I am at the point where I need some advice about my gear. I am full T7 now and I am a JC. So I have lots of choices with gems. My avoidance is around 41% now. I would like to see it a bit higher. But I am also speced Frost so I do have the added mitigation of Unbreakable armor, Imp Frost Presence, Ect.

Please let me know what you think about my gear and possible changes. Also gem allegation. I am speced towards Single target tanking, or MT spec.

Talent Build:

The World of Warcraft Armory (http://www.wowarmory.com/talent-calc.xml?cid=6&tal=0055320000000000000000000000305050003520331003 0025101351005000000000000000000000000000)

I think you should be able to find a better set of boots from somewhere. But can't find anything else to say, gear looks just nice to me, and spec is good too.

enchants/patches:

wrist: 15 exp
hand: 20hit => will get threat or expertise on an upgrade
legs: 45sta 15agi => epic version on an upgrade
feet: 22sta

K that was a lot ;-P

I have no real tanking experience thusfar (only on other classes, warrior/druid). Does this look ok to start tanking in and where should i improve in the short term/long term.
for my build (blood for tanking): The World of Warcraft Armory (http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Bloodhoof&cn=Sledgydk&gn=The+Awakening)

had blood gorged for the expertise but saw after speccing that they took that out so might change those 5 points to somewhere else.

Also i read a commonly used rotation for blood was:
1) IT-PS-HS-HS-OB
2) IT-PS-HS-HS-HS-HS-OB
using runestrike and DC for dumps
But looking over my spec wich heavily favours DS, shouldnt that be better for threat? taking into account that i get some agro-threat from the heal aswell. So switching those OB for DS...

To the OP:

Overall your gear is pretty good but there are a couple places you can easily upgrade/re-itemize:

1. Your trinket is awful :p. You have JC leveled to 450. I would craft a Ruby Hare and either gem it with 2 x 24 stamina gems. Another alternative would be to try and get the defense trinket out of naxx so you could drop some of your defense gems elsewhere.

2. As for your gemming, its safe to say that it is almost NEVER a good idea to gem for parry. I don't have theorycraft to back that up directly, but if you dig you'll find numbers crunched that show a very unforgiving diminishing returns on parry. In all such cases either gem dodge/stam, expertise/stam, hit/stam or better yet evaluate your socket bonuses to see if they're truly worthwhile.

3. What level of content do you plan on raiding at the moment? That will largely determine how you should ideally try to gear. For example if you're planning on stepping into Ulduar, you'll need higher EH imo as even in 10-man you can take quite a bit of burst damage. I notice you don't have any 25 man gear so perhaps you don't have access to that content, but there are definitely some good itesm out of Naxx-10 that could help you.

4. Most importantly regarding your spec... why in the world would you not spec into Frost Strike? You say this is a single target MT spec and frost strike is BY FAR the best runic power dump for single target threat that you have. Not only that, but it synnergizes perfectly with many of the other talents you have picked up (scent of blood, 2-h weapon spec, black ice, killing machine, chill of the grave, glacier rot, blood of the north, guile of gorefiend, annihilation, and tundra stalker all help your tps from frost strike o.O)

5. Last but not least, do you have a threat set other than this gear (expertise/hit)? Especially not specced into frost strike I imagine your tps cannot be particularly high o.O

Hope this helps!

Thanx for looking threw the messy post i made ;-p

1) Right now i don't have defence gems, but i am getting rid of some defence enchants, maybe that's what you mean. I'm indeed in the middle of phasing those out. I needed those for the cap but soon after got swamped in defence... I however did not find the gear of such quality to re-enchant those, so opted for coping with them till i get a usefull upgrade and enchant that correctly.

2) where did i spec for parry? i haven't got a single gem with parry on it.
only gems are: sta, exp/sta, hit/sta, hit, exp.

3) I am planning to tank some heroics. Since i dont have any experience tanking yet i'm not gonna jump into any raids any time soon, unless i tend to pick the tanking up real quick.
I do have access to the content though, i just dont feel comfortable running into there without some experience, or the apropriate gear.

4) well i didn't make a frost tank build, because i wanted to try out blood tanking. It seemed a bit more my style. And looking threw forums there are still quite viable blood tanking builds. I took some things from all and tailored it to my style, and in doing so might have made it not so viable. That's why i posted here for some pointers ;-P

5) I was striving for a threat set tbh, and am trying to get the hit and exp up as much as i can but in my content where i am at the hit/exp arent very common on gear. You find it more in naxx and up. So i guess i'll get some more of that once i grow in content.
