View Full Version : Ketchup - the ultimate question.

Shamelessly stolen from a food forum I read; this turned into quite a heated debate.

I like mustard on fries better than ketchup, but I suppose that's another debate entirely.

Slathering ketchup all over fries grosses me out. Its not so bad when its in that red squeezebottle with the cone tip and the tiny hole that makes it squirt out in a thin stream... Then you can better control the output and lightly cover the fries in tasty goodness. But from the bottle? It just pours out suddenly, all over that ONE fry that you end up rubbing all over the others. The rest of the fries usually don't fare much better. After a few minutes, it turns your fries into mushy red glop. Disgusting.

On the side, as is proper. What are we, cavemen?

We can be friends. Sidenote: I'm totally European in my love for mayonnaise on chips/fries.

I expected you to recommend lard.

Ketchup is good for fries. I prefer Heinz Chili Sauce for steaks over steak sauce

I put it on the side.. when I use it. Normally, I don't use it on fries, I use gravy. Or a nice order of Poutine. Yummy:)

On the side, since food is a means by which to get condiments to your mouth, I like to dip things in other things before I eat.

You make optimal mess by placing it on TOP of the food. Drips are what cause the most excitement.

Lies, to preserve the crispiness of fries, yet have the ketchup taste... you must dip, not let drip.

You will learn young Pada-wan.
