The World of Warcraft Armory (http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Ravenholdt&n=Theroux)

I've played WoW for close to three years now, and a Warrior since BC. However, I've always played PvP - regardless of the class I'm playing - and thus I am not the most clued up person when it comes to PvE. PvP simply fails to appeal to me anymore, hence the switch.

As the title says, I was wondering if I'm ready to run heroics yet. I've been following one or two guides on gearing up, but some of gear suggested is simply to time-consuming for me to really get. I am most confused about the usage of Gladiator gear - I know that it's recommended to reach the Defense cap, but isn't that outweighed by the higher Stamina, Strength and Resilience off of Gladiator gear?

Thanks.

Well, what I notice immediately is the total lack of enchants on your gear (not to be taken literally, I'm also including armor kits for gloves and eternal belt buckles here). A fairly hefty chunk of your stamina/defense comes from enchants.

Overall, your stamina and avoidance is a bit on the lowish side. You could probably handle the easier ones, such as UK, with a good healer and by playing well. King Dred, on the other hand, would likely eat you alive. That's also assuming that your lack of crit immunity doesn't bite you at the wrong moment (heroic Keristrasza can do normal hits for up to around 10k damage, which would be 20k crits).

The "big bag of hit points" approach to gearing is really not all that viable for heroics. This isn't a 25-player raid, where you can stack healing accordingly to make sure the tank is already topped off. Example: After a few Consumes, Trollgore will be attacking you for 5kish damage after armor ever second (not counting the damage from Consume itself). If you don't avoid some of those hits, that's more than a well-geared healer can hope to handle.

That's not to say that Stamina isn't valuable and needed in a heroic, too, but generally, you're getting too little stamina for the loss of avoidance out of PvP gear.

Wow my first attempt at this post turned to rambling on. Ok, first of all as far as defense, there is no reason not to be at uncrittable at 80.
Plate Armor - Items - World of Warcraft (http://www.wowhead.com/?items=4.4&filter=minrl=78;maxrl=80;ub=1;gb=1;wt=22:42:45:117 :21:46:43:20:119:41:96:114:77:103;wtv=100:66:59:58 :53:50:22:17:7:7:5:5:3:3)
Do not trust Wowhead's score too much as similar items can be situational pieces (the same reason Tankscore is both useful and useless at the same time). That list though should give you a list of late game plate gear you can use to fill in holes in your gear, obviously just ignore the raid gear for now and focus on the normal/heroic loot as well as any rep rewards and BoE crafted.

My thoughts on it are you really need to get your 535/540 def before heroics, or be an outright amazing tank, With only 20k hp you won't stand a chance of getting a group, on my server at least.
If you want to start going to heroics, invest the time and money to get the best items you can, Enchant and gem them up. Eternal Belt Buckles, hell go for Heavy Borean Armor Kits for +stam if you have to but work on your def and stamina definatly before heading to heroics. After that build your Parry/dodge and block up but the gear from heroics should take care of that.

There have been some good suggestions on here already however I think the quick short answer to your question is "No" you are not ready for heroics. There are a lot of aspects involved in that simple answer but I would say you MUST have 535 defense for heroics (540 for Nax) and just follow along this type of gear guide:
http://www.tankspot.com/forums/f97/41986-cider-s-easy-540-defense-gear-guide.html

Combine that with switching to the default Prot Warrior spec of 15/5/51 it will help you out a LOT and make you a much more viable tank:
Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft (http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=LAM00fZhbZMItrx0zidIzsGo)

As you upgrade your gear to functional tanking pieces you need to get them enchanted:
Enchantments by slot - WoWWiki - Your guide to the World of Warcraft (http://www.wowwiki.com/Enchantments_by_slot)

First on your priority list should be grabbing a Seal of the Pantheon (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=36993) trinket from Normal Halls of Lighting as it is a huge help in allowing you to meet the defense requirement and allow some gearing versatility.
