View Full Version : DK Spec for Sarth Post - 3.0.8

I play a DK and I tank Sarth.

So, post 3.0.8. I'm torn. Will the boneshield nerf really make me a terrible tank on Sarth? Right now, I'm trying to devise a spec that I can utilize best compensate for that incoming nerf. This is all I've really found.

my current spec - UH 11/5/55 (http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?deathknight=0055001000000000000000000000050000000 000000000000000000235230000103105253001203133151&glyph=041706010504)

mainly relying on the AMS and in a bind using AMZ / Mighty Fire Protection Pot / Repelling Charge, and Guardian Spirit / Divine Guardian + HoSac.

With the boneshield nerf, I would still need to focus on removing twilight torment, which isn't hard but it's unreliable at best.

I was thinking post 3.0.8, to try and keep my job especially with the proposed HP grown change on Paladins they might be the more optimal choice. BUT! I'm going to go down without a fight.

I was thinking of respeccing:

Initially I was going to spec deep blood for the reduction of the AMS CD with Will of the Necropolis, but it would seem that the updated talent calculator isn't showing that is going to pan out. The brightest idea I could cook up was utilizing two one-handers for that brief period of time and tossing 75 Sta on the both of them. That coupled with the 8% stamina gain and the 10% health from Frost Presence just might be enough to push me up closer to druid HP proportions. I know it sounds crazy, but I'm pretty sur I need to be more competitive with the HP scaling, so I don't get replaced by a druid.

Could the trade off of Vampiric Blood (15% HP and 35% healing avec nerf), versus AMZ be worth it? Mix that with a change of Meta Gem (32 Sta -2% Spell Damage). It doesn't net out to being more HP versus health saved from AMZ, but 20 seconds out of ever minute I would have 36-37K HP. Which is approximately the same as a druid, mix that with 15 seconds of IBF, and 4 seconds of AMS, assuming that there is at least 10 seconds and at most 29 seconds between each breath. I might actually be able to perpetuate the rotation without having to use outside cooldowns, plus later in the encounter once the difficult part is over (Shad and Vesp at the same time), and he hits even harder Lichbourne + Vampiric Blood would be more beneficial than my previous spec.

As for threat generation, I don't generally need any. I have normally have a 500-600K lead on everyone before we decide to kill the boss, so saccing some of my more threat oriented abilities would be more optimal than keeping them and essentially letting them go to waste.

I'm at a loss for options, I'd like to keep my job. But I don't really know what I can do to validate it, or even what to do. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Unholy will still be the best tanking spec for sartharion as his breath is the only thing that can kill you. Although Bone Shield is getting nerfed, we are still getting an additional 10% spell damage reduction so you're only looking at a decrease of 10%.

What it comes down to though is the fully buffed breath which BS doesn't really help with. You still need AMS for that, AMZ is still awesome. It all breaks my heart because I prefer to tank as frost.
