[/URL]You've no doubt seen the beginnings of an extensive movie collection arriving on TankSpot over the last two days. This is an ongoing process that, in the immediate future, will cover the entirety of 10-man content and several Heroic 5-mans. In the more distant future, it will include user-submitted guild videos and guides of all of these encounters, as well as 25-man versions of the same.

In the tradition of the TankSpot Marmot, we've decided to name this Project Marmot (I even have projectmarmot.com reserved!). The unique name is primarily meant to grab attention and make an easy indicator for non-tanks who are looking for our raid guides on the site.

For the first time, I have made the decision to focus on YouTube movies almost exclusively. Almost none of these guides are designed for full-resolution downloads, but instead are designed to reach the maximum resolution YouTube is capable of. Why YouTube? It reaches the highest number of people with the fewest international restrictions. Coincidentally -- and quite appreciated -- YouTube has just opened up much higher resolution videos, and has automatically converted our first batch of movies into this format.

This is awsome and will be great for relativly new tanks like me :).

Nevertheless I liked to download and watch the videos on my ipod on my way to work. I think now I will go back to stupid .flv download with some plugin.

Still...great work

How much work would it be to also post the videos on filefront? YouTube and my office internet don't get along very well.

For what it's worth - we called it Project Marmot because Project Lore was already taken and "Lore Lore" sounds weird.

Tankspot Marmot needs to level his fanny up and get some WoTLK gear. Shouldn't be sporting that out dated shiznit.

Dear TankSpot administrators - especially you, Ciderhelm.

One of my strongest principles in life, is to tell someone, when they have done a good job.

And this Project Marmot, is nothing but fantastic - especially the videos has a quality to them, that is unlike any of the "how-to-down-the-boss"-videos that existed before.

I would like, on behalf of my whole guild (Phoenix Legends, Dragonmaw) to thank you for the immense help you have provided, to get our raiding up and running, and providing good quality videos for us to use.

Thank you :)

I will pop my head by these forums, from time to time in the future, and leave a post here and there.

All the best regards

Tavia @ Dragonmaw

Great project! I really love you video guides, mostly in part I don't have to make them (I just point them to your videos for my guildies) and second, it's better than the stuff you see on YouTube.com on the How To videos.

I used to do them for BC and used the full length fights with narrations in it so my guildies get the most out of seeing how the fight works before going in.

I do Mod review videos. I don't know if you can use them for this project but if you do let me know. It's over on my youtube account YouTube - cychow's Channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/cychow).

Thanks for the work again on your videos. Great help to my guild.

In some areas of the country, the most common version of the marmot (marmota monax), is referred to as a "Whistlepig", or the more familiar "Woodchuck."

Which, in ancient lore, gave rise to the famous rhetorical question "How much deeps could a woodchuck deeps if a woodchuck could deeps wood?"

I have to say that these video's are brilliant Ciderhelm. I watched aload of them before going to Naxx10 to tank.. and we killed 7 bosses without a wipe.

So thanks alot for doing these video's they are a massive help.

I play a restoration shaman and lead raids for a fairly casual raid group. Because of this, I often try to find a good description of a fight from the tank's perspective simply so that I can help smooth any issues that can arise from improper tanking strategy. I have to say, the videos I've found here have been some of the best, most helpful videos I've ever watched on raid strategies. Even just the quality of the video itself and the calm, simple descriptions you give about the encounters adds to the understanding drawn from them.

These videos have been so good, that I'm seriously considering starting up a series of raid videos from a healer's perspective. To this end, I was wondering if you could tell me what video capture program you use (I've used Game Cam in the past, but I'm not sure if I want to continue using it) as well as what program you use for editing the video at the end. And finally, if I ever do start to make my own instructional videos, would I be able to add my videos to your collection?

Hi. I love your videos. I love the explanations along with the clear clean video. I am wondering if you can ever post your secrets on making these videos. I am curious about what is the file size/resolution before uploading to youtube? Do you use Vegas/Vista Movie Maker/? to make these? I have some that are getting close to yours but for some reason more of my right and left are cut off than yours. All of your videos are well done, and I understand if you feel that this is something you want to hold on to.

Here is an example of what I am talking about, Here is mine:

YouTube - Off Tanking Sartharion in Obsidian Sanctum

If you look at the youtube version, the sides are really cut off and not as clear as yours:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AE5UgIY-HDA&fmt=18YouTube - Off Tanking Sapphiron in Naxxramas to Art of Trance in High Definition
YouTube - Off Tanking Anub'Rekhan in Naxxramas in High Definition
YouTube - Main Tanking Heigan the Unclean in Naxxramas in High Definition - DJ Tiesto
YouTube - Off Tanking Loatheb in Naxxramas in High Definition
YouTube - Main Tanking Thaddius in Naxxramas in High Def Definition - DJ Tiesto
YouTube - Off Tanking Instructor Razuvious in Naxxramas in High Definition

Hello all, DK MT here

I just dropped by to give a BIG THANK YOU to Project Marmot for those movie guides. My guild has started Naxx(10) about a week ago and with the help of those movies we cleared Spider and Plague wing in just few runs, also downed Razuvious. Simply amazing guides :).

Thank you for the excellent guide movies. Is it possible to download them for offline viewing? Maybe they could be posted to itunes as a video-podcast? I find myself on airplanes alot and would love to review these offline. Thanks.

if you are using Mozilla Firefox as your inet browser, then there is an addon
called DownloadHelper that lets you download streaming movies :)

for example Youtube vids :) then you can open them in VLC

Thanks for the tip. I installed the addon. I'm unclear how to download the HD versions. Also the built in converter to mp4 (I'm on a mac) was jittery, so I also am trying out a converter.

Still... I think HD video-casts available on itunes would rock.

----update----
I figured out that if I left the webpage after I started the download, the movies came out great.

Hi there I've been enjoying the project Marmot videos and have been linking them to our website.

We use phpBB3 for our website forums. Does anyone know how I could embed the videos into our forums so they show in HD? Currently I can get them to work at the right height and width but they appear to be in standard definition still.

Thanks all and keep up the great guides!

Well here's a guild video that I created, inspired by our kills and of course tankspot.

Probably best to go to the video and view in HD instead of the embedded video, much larger.

I have noticed there is no Video for Flame Leviathen (or however it is spelled). I was wondering if there was one in the works coming out soon...as I know personally it takes some coordination from everyone there to work together.
Coordination as in timing, and communication.

Hi all,
I am impressed with the videoclips. But I have a big problem. I am deaf and I am unable to understand what is going on and cannot hear/understand the voiceover.
My request is now. Is it possible to subtitle those excellent clips? You tube has the facility or it. (I have met the programmer of the subtitles/closed captions feature in Mountain View by the way :-))

This will not only benefit deaf and hard of hearing people. But with You Tube's automatic translation. It will help players who do not understand English and like it in their own language.

thoughts?

Hi. i hope im in the right place to ask questions about your videos. Wanted to say first your last video was the best which u uploaded 3 hours ago on the 8/1/10 ^^ i liked it more hten others because you gave useful facts and advice as well as being very funny in your videos which makes it more interesting. You have helped me alot with my addons and i am about to upload a tactics guide for my guild onto youtube of 10 man rotface (normally i only make 25 man videos) so i will be using my new addons on that video hehe.

Anyways...my question is. How big is your PC monitor!? as you manage to fit all these addons on your screen and my 22" cant hold them all neatly without using up too much room and im going to buy a bigger one soon anyways and was hoping to know what i should be looking for. Please tell us how big ur screen is on your next video please :) would be so helpful. ty :)

Here's the hardmode video: http://www.tankspot.com/forums/f206/51127-ulduar-flame-leviathan-hard-mode.html

If you're doing normal mode for the first time, just give it a whirl. It's hard to get a feel even with a video.

i noticed when i had skinner on that when i hover over a player i still get the standard blizzard "frame box" which comes at the bottom right corner of the screen. i hope you know which box im on about (it tels u the playher name, guild, level and a health bar).
Anyways, it blocks part of the screen in an annoying place and i wish i could move i. i looked at your marmot video 1 and realized u had an addon which changes the looks from the standard blizzard looking one to a much beter looking one in a different spot. I want to get that addon but not sure which addon did it for you out of the list of addons you named. Please tell me which one it is that did that if you know what im on about. thanks :)

Promise not to spam the chat ^^

but please take no notice of my last message about what frame box for the tips you use because i found "Tiptac" addon on curse which is great :)

I have a question of how you managed to get an elite icon on your tidy plates addon health bars. i cant get mine to do that and i like it better so you can tell the difference between an elite and a normal mod. thanks
