View Full Version : Paladin PvP Shield Slam Spec

Note to Klimp: This is a work in progress /smack

To start, sword/board pvp warriors look awesome, and with a holy shield slam coming, why can't a pally do the same? So I've been mulling over a spec came up with a potential prot-pvp build using my shield as my primary form of attack. But, alas, I don't have a beta invite so as any good theory crafter, I can always plug numbers with my lvl 70 stats to see what they would be like with the new build ^.^

I'll go under the impression I've got all the lvl 80 talent points available (woo) but using my lvl 70 gear/stats to talk about potential damage output... for now. ;)

This spec was designed to maximize crit and damage from the holy shield slam while having a hefty amount of spell power for my seals, judges, and of course, being the defensive hybrid I am, healing.

Potential 20 sec stun CD
Double Spell Damage Stacking
Blessing of Sanctuary to return mana in combat
Maximized damage for Holy Shield Slams (HSS)
Divine Shield functions as "OH CRAP" button for all nearby teammates
Heals crit for more and add a HoT on a crit.
Eye for an Eye and a shield makes rogues cry.

These are done with my PvP Ret Set equiped with Bulwark of the Amani Empire and Hammer of Judgement and trinkets used are Gnomeregan Auto-Blocker 600 & Medallion of the Alliance.

Base Stats at my current spec: (0/50/11):
242 SBV
601 Str
830 Stam
1616 Attack Power
17.8% Crit
276 Spell Power
242 Res

New Stats using (0/48/23) Spec:
763 SBV (1023 with Auto-Blocker)
691 Str
1798 Attack Power
830 Stam
1064 Spell Power
23.8% Crit
262 Res

Compared to PvE Gear:
773 SBV (1033 w/ Auto-Blocker Active)
148 Str (+74 SBV added in above)
1317 Stam
487 Attack Power
9.21% Crit
983 Spell Power

Damage output: Shield of Righteousness (http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?spell=53600) (lvl 75 Paladin Skill): Deals 200% SBV as Holy Damage
**These numbers include 3/3 Shield of the Templar (+15% Damage/-15% Cost) & One-Hand Spec (+5% damage)**

Unbuffed: 763 SBV * 2 *1.15 *1.05 = 1841 (3683 Crit)

Unbuffed + Auto-Blocker: 1023 * 2 * 1.15 *1.05 = 2469 (4939 Crit)

Unbuffed + Auto-Blocker + Tome of the Lightbringer: 1263 * 2 * 1.15 * 1.05 = 3049 (6098) Crit)

These numbers look pretty good for unbuffed, and remember damage is done as HOLY DAMAGE that means armor, shield, etc... aren't going stop any of this damage. Personally, I don't have the libram, but you'll see me at lvl 75 running around with an auto-blocker/slam macro lighting people up.

I'm going to run some more numbers and I'll add in a potential max crit self buffed (Blessing of Kings, Avenging Wrath, etc..) and then buffed by some other classes (zerker woo!). I'm also looking at the spell coefficients to see how consecrate, seal of righteousness, etc... scale with the massive amounts of AP and Spell Power I'll be carrying around as well.

Damage Output: Seal of Righteousness and Judgment of Righteousness

Seal of Righteousness Auto Attack Bonus: 1.8*((.05*1798)+(.1*1064)) = 353 Holy Damage
Judgment of Righteousness: 1+(.45*1798)+(.73*1064) = 1586 Holy Damage (1975 Crit)

Once again, Holy Damage ignores armor so the damage won't be mitigated by plate. Additionally, Seals will last for 2 minutes, so there will be no need to refresh this seal after a judgment, the downside of this spec is that Protection Seals will be susceptible to dispel, unlike retribution specs.

What about your other abilities in these specs?

I'm thinking being able to unload 8k holy damage on someone in 2 secs is a headshot :P
