View Full Version : Warrior / Paladin + Arena = ?

I'm having a hard time getting out of the 1450-1500 bracket with my paladin friend. We're both decently geared and I feel like we're somewhat skilled. We're just struggling with getting out of the 1450-1500 bracket. Against 2 dps teams we do quite well but when we start facing other healer + dps combos we start to fail. Any tips / advice? It would be nice to get to at least 1500 or 1600 to get some brutal pieces.
P.S. I'm sword spec with the merc gladiator sword. Is it that important I go mace?

Well your gear could be holding you back. Both of you don't even have 300 resil yet. It is probably important that you go mace since you're undergeared and having some trouble. Sword is kinda gimp in 2's unless you run with a shaman. If the spec you currently are is your PvP spec you might run into trouble without Second Wind. Your pally's spec is kind of strange. He should probably respec 41/20 (http://www.wowdb.com/talent.aspx?id=2#::fe2fe2fe2f2e2fe3ce2fe3ae2f2efef 32:). With your comp you shouldn't really struggle with druid teams because of the amount of pressure you should be able to apply with JoJ. I ran a couple games with a S3 Holy pally a while back and we beat a full S3 Warrior/Druid team our very first game.
Here is top rated warrior/pally teams so you can refer to their gear and specs:

Well, you have to understand that Warrior / Paladin actually isn't a very strong comp. It looks good, on paper, but...
Looking at the Arena Junkies list linked above, notice that you have the top 100 warrior / paladin teams, and their rankings. Then swap to warrior / druid, with their rankings. Notice that only the top 3 warrior paladin combos outrank the 100th warrior / druid mix, and that none of those 3 would be in the top half of the war / dru set.
The real key to running Warrior / Paladin is that the paladin is very, very vulnerable to CC. He has to be in LOS of to heal, and has to stand still. No HoTs means no running to drink. Bubble is nice, but it's only 12 seconds long. Etc. So "job 1" has to be protecting your paladin friend as much as possible by trying to peel folks off of him. You're just going to have to be very active looking for opportunities to pummel, intervene, disarm, spell reflect, intimidating shout, etc.
One of the things that helped the wife and I was really learning how we both could pillar hug. We really worked at doing tricks like pillar kiting and killing pets, avoiding mana drains, etc. It's still uphill, but skill wise that's what helped us the most.
Even still we are sitting out S4. After playing most of S2 and S3, she finally decided that if getting gear meant rankings would be required, there was no point in playing. Hope it works better for y'all.

The roughest part about pally/warrior is recognizing you won't "outmana" any other healer/dps team and you have to adjust to go for quicker wins. The hard part about that is holy pallys do the dps of a disc priest without the drain/fear options. The pally/war teams I have had trouble with the warrior and pally stay glued together making roots useless even if I can root him during a BoF cooldown. Rogue/druid will be especially rough along with warlock/priest or huntard/priest or huntard/druid.

i agree with schleppy. If playing with a pala vs druid healer + dps, try to stick on the druid. Stun him in caster form, seal of justice, etc. The druid should have a very hard time keeping alive.

I feel your pain man. My partner used to be a holy pally and the most we could muster was a 1660. Im sure with more practice we could pop into the 1700s but i got sick of long winded losses to war/drui teams. Like it was mentioned above, it looks good on paper, and is a hell of a lot easier to find a holy pally than resto druid, but your pally will run out of mana alot quicker than druids and when ur being cc'd all game your pally is in trouble.
Suggestions ive found that works....
For your combo to work you have to kill quick. You have to make sure your warrior puts out mad dmg and can kill the enemies healer fast.
Get a mace and put points in tm. If you get a lucky mace proc you can finish off an opponent. ive won many games this way. And tm will help u sunder sunder sunder and blow your rage at the right moment.
Pally needs to be on point with bof and hoj. Stay close to him and let him know when your opponent is low on health to lay a hoj on and give you that extra second to finish him off.
Save your medallion for the most opportune moment. For instance: when u get a druid around 30% in bear form they are going to pop out, cyclone you and hit regrowth or cast some rejuves...this is your time to blow your medallion and finish him.

Hi, I'm having a similar problem. Me and my pally friend both have 3/5 Brutal and the rest merciless, yet we can't seem to get past 1600-1650, we got to 1699 the other day but then lost about 10 games in a row. It's frustrating me because I can't see what I'm doing wrong, I've read all the guides and I feel like I know what I'm doing. I've tried out lots of different specs and it doesn't seem to make much difference. I keep up hamstring, and mortal strike, sunder when i can, death wish when they're at about 30 or 40% and it's time for the nuke, and sometimes we win but not as much as we lose it seems. I'd be grateful of any advice tips, maybe on spec and jst generally on how to play.... is it shameful that we can't get 1700? It's shameful to me!

yeah man....i think that's just the pally/warrior fiasco. We'd win alot til about 1690 then lose like 10 lol. we would face like a steady stream of resto teams and they would out last us. I think its alot like speccing fury for pvp. It's doable but alot harder and requires alot of stat stacking in certain fields.
