Got my hands on a few new pieces, and trying to figure out best combination

2059 AP, 29.74 crit, 182 hit, 56 ArP

or

1995 AP, 29.02 crit, 157 hit, 389 ArP

Maxdps says the first one is better, but Kaz loves ArP, so trying to get opinions. Any help is appreciated.

For you Id recommend sticking with the first one until you get more ArP otherwse imo your better with your first setup.
Id wait till you have atleast 800 to 1000 passive ArP to switch to more of an ArP/Crit concentration.

800 passive ArP? that's a bit tough to reach outside of sunwell gear. i just don't see it happening, I think if you can break 450 you're good with executioner.

Sorry forgot to tell anyone who does not know me that I am fury. The pieces that are getting me that penetration are the leather chestpiece from ZA, Dory's Embrace, and the pvp ring. 800-1000 is way down the road, but the badge ring and ZA lookalike would get me to about 600.....would that make a difference?

T6 content can make it pretty easy to get 800+ passive armor pen. I held onto all my +attack power stuff until i was able to get over 600 armor pen passively and then made the switch. combine that with an executioner proc and you think that you are supposed to be criting with some of the damage spikes.

Go ArP

Basically you will gain around 2% to your base Damage on a 6K armour boss without executioner. I say base damage because Crits get double the value if not more from ArP due to talents and the way the math works..

((Damage - Boss modified mitigations) * 2) + 23%

23% is impale and Metagem. Not really sure where that percentage is applied however

So lets say that the mob loses 1.5% mitigation due to ArP. Our White hits gain 1.5% damage however our crts actually gain over 3% Damage......

If this is correct it also turns some other math on it's head making Crit>AP at some point lower than before.

Just how i think of it, not really sure how it actually is broken down via the arp spreadsheet just how i feel it works after swapping over to ArP.......I'm at similar stats to you i think.

800+ is really easy to get. Ive got 850 even and Ive not even touched T6 content. Badge gear and some ZA gear. Ive got 1953 AP, 850 ArP, 28% crit, 140 HR, and 11/11 Exp.

Ok Legion, but my question is will your stats outperform my stats without the ArP? This morning with some new gems I am 2070 AP, 30% crit, 175 hit, 11 expertise, and like 56 ArP. So does 850 ArP outweigh 117 AP, 2% crit, 35 hit?

850 ArP is equivalent to 12.143 itemization points

117AP is 5.85
2% crit is 44.16 crit rating which is 4.416 itemization points
35 hit is 3.5 itemization points.

12.143 versus 13.766

It's close and the 850 arP will be a percentage increase in your DPS. The bigger question is fully raid buffed how much AP do you have. If it's over or close to 3k (guestimate!) then the ArP will begin to outplay AP.

3150 last night with pally buffs and MotW and the shaman earth totem I believe. Once rampage and some procs hit I get closer to 3700-3800. I think I need to find a better piece of gear for an example though. Dory's Embrace in exchange of Vengeance wrap I can see, but the ZA leather one in exchange of bulwark of ancient kings will probably be a bad comparison.

63 AP (29 Str before Vit.), 16 crit rating, 25 hit rating is better than 333 ArP.

A decent quick estimate for prot dps is:
7 ArP = (1.0 Str at low ArP levels / 1.1 at moderate / 1.2 at high ArP levels)
1 Crit = .75 Str (you dont have the flurry or impale that makes it almost equal to str for fury/arms warrs)
1 Hit = .5 Str.

29 Str + 16 Crit + 25 hit is worth about 53.5 str, its a bit better than the ArP is, but not by much, mostly because the ArP is only 'good' to start, it doesnt become 'amazing' until you already have a fair bit.

But those #s are fairly close. If you have 1000 ArP already you'd probably take the option of getting the extra 300+ ArP.

Raid buffed w/ Imp BS I have 3k AP w/out Rampage and not in combat. Once Im in combat, I have another 1k AP in items that proc I float around 3700-3900. When WF/Unleashed Rage is up I peak at 4600-4800.
