If you want some help on your Hunter, let me know, I'll gladly help you out. (I read your blog)

I've out dps'd T4 mages in all blues, so its entirely possible for you to be doing better :) (not sure quite sure how far into T4 she was, but she had at least 3 pieces, i know)

I might have some quick fixes for you.

You can email me or we can talk about it here, on the tank forums.... ;P

Ok, since I'm bored at work and have been thinking about it all morning, I figure I'll post some more on the subject of helping horacio get better with his Hunter :)

First off, the method in which you deal damage is going to be dependent on the content in which you are dealing it in.

For instance, I would use a different set of shots in PvP than I would in a raid, and I would also use a different set of shots in content such as 5-mans heroics and on up to karazhan. For this reason, I am going to ask you, Horacio, to tell me what mind of content you are having difficulty in:

PvP- BG's, Arena

PvE- 5-mans, heroics, into karazhan

PvE- Raids (25-mans and ZA)

I would submit that the 5man/heroic/kara content is the one area where spec can take a backseat to issues such as gameplay and group/team awareness. Though that statement might draw the ire of some Hunters and maybe those here as well, I have been through kara (a raid, technically) with a less than optimal dps spec and have done a satisfactory job in the eyes of my guildmates. Why? Because I know how to handle myself. As long as you're specced to deal range physical dps (its pretty much impossible not to) and can handle your character, you can deal a good amount of damage, the only thing might need tweaking would be shot selection and rotation. If thats where your Hunter is at, let me know, and I'll go in this.

As for now, back to work. I'll check back and make a small post about PvP stuff a bit later, unless theres a response waiting for me :)

Thanks for the input!

The hunter, quite frankly, is back burner atm. Working on my mage and my lock. There are a few ultra weak pieces of gear I need to upgrade but I'm having enough issues orchestrating a move to get my mage into a Kara raid let alone a second, overplayed toon. I could drop some major cash on crafted gear but meh....

I have a few season 1 arena items (helm and shoulders) and getting into BGs is no big deal. Arenas just don't do much for me.

He's perfectly adequate for 5 mans and lots of leather farming. I know how to play him pretty well in terms of trapping, aggro control, etc. The killer is my weak 1200 AP which really needs gear to improve upon. I should get a more effective DPS oriented pet being BM specced but I love my bear.

Its kinda tough to juggle multiple characters and keep them all up to date. at some point, you reach a plateau where you need to get into at least 10 man raids or do a zillion heroics to get badges. They brought about the expensive badge gear at the same time the dropped badges on raid bosses. If you aren't raiding, collecting enough badges to buy it is a steep climb.

So, I appreciate the help but don't expend too much energy on it. The hunter is my #4 character at the moment and I'm slowly bringing along my warlock and brand new shammy.

Well if Horacio is gonna pass I'm gonna jump in and ask. I have a 70 hunter I have the pvp Fist weapons and Don Santos rifle. But don't dedicate any real time in arenas or raids my work schedule doesn't allow for me to be on at specific times. I am specced Marks and using the Purple bird from the Skiths at the moment.

I guess my question is do i pursue the pvp gear for more robust play and helping with dailies or work on heroics and reputation and earn gear that way?

Yeah, I have a Khorium Destroyer. I had my hands on a Don Santos but I AH'd it a while back.

Uh....what do you want to do?

if you want to PvP, go for PvP gear, its itemized for it :P The only thing that is questionable is your weapon. Hunters have special epeen issues when it comes to their weapons, at least most of them, so I would first recommend a *class* of weapon you like first, and sticking with that (though the PvP bows suck bad, if they even exist, I have only seen one.....I think, same goes for PvP guns) PvP Xbows are largely prominent due to their typically slower speed for those big aimed shot crits :) so if you're gonna be a hardcore PvP'er on your Hunter I would say Xbow is the way to go, but dont sacrifice crit and AP for an xbow, at the end of the day it is, of course, about the stats that are delivered by the weapon

As for your melee weapon, the S3 Axe is the option any and all Hunters (raid, casual, pvp) should go for. It easily attained and has *everything* you need. As far as stat sticks go, its pry the best one you'll ever see unless your guild gets far enough down the list to you to get you some rogue swords :)

I PvP very little, more of what I know about PvP is spec and strategy based. Gear has always been my weak point, no matter the content, primarily because I dont have stellar gear. Anything I know about gear I have read from somewhere else almost 100%

Is your hunter a dwarf? if so, don santos is the way to go, but if its any other class you might be able to do better, depending on what other weapons are available to you. Especially if its a troll. Trolls and guns do not go together, same for dwarfs and bows.

NE hunter..... I like the slower speed on the gun and combine it with bladesbreath trinket and the rage one. IM mainly concerned with being able to progress when LK comes out w/o being too far behind. I mainly use my hunter for farming and running dailies for gold. I usually post 2nd or third in dps in 5 man instances I was just wondering which way to go to be best prepared for PVE when LK comes out

spec the BM leveling spec if you want to get to 80 fast.

Unless they drastically re-work the talent trees, BM is the way to go because your pet is your own personal tank, you shoot hella fast, have great group buffs, etc.

My recommended BM leveling spec:
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/hunter/talents.html?tal=512002005252122501051050520120500 0000000000000000000000000000000 (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/hunter/talents.html?tal=512002005252122501051050520120500 0000000000000000000000000000000)

Its just 2/2 Spirit Bond instead of 3/3 Ferocious Inspiration. If you want to then go to the BM level 70 (and assumedly level 80) raid dps spec:
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/hunter/talents.html?tal=512002005250122431051050520120500 0000000000000000000000000000000 (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/hunter/talents.html?tal=512002005250122431051050520120500 0000000000000000000000000000000)

Hope that helps. If you're specced that you will be fine with 5 mans, but as I said above, as long as you arent specced something off the wall like this:
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/hunter/talents.html?tal=050330210000000000000505023025030 0200000000320500512020000000000 (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/hunter/talents.html?tal=050330210000000000000505023025030 0200000000320500512020000000000)

You'll be fine for 5 man content, dailies, etc.
