View Full Version : Hyjal trash : Spell reflect

Spell reflect rocks on Hyjal trash. I always knew it was an awesome ability but I didn't know how good it was until I started reflecting the initial pull in Hyjal. The pally and I are able to weave consecrates and spell reflect for some amazing results.

Heres the initial spell reflect I got on wave 7 (I think?) of Algalor trash (07/10):

03:37'07.637 Shadowy Necromancer's Death misses Shadowy Necromancer
03:37'36.888 Shadowy Necromancer's Shadow Bolt hits Shadowy Necromancer for 3672 Shadow damage
03:37'37.045 Shadowy Necromancer's Shadow Bolt hits Shadowy Necromancer for 3728 Shadow damage
03:37'37.366 Shadowy Necromancer's Shadow Bolt hits Shadowy Necromancer for 3638 Shadow damage
03:37'37.616 Shadowy Necromancer's Shadow Bolt hits Shadowy Necromancer for 3991 Shadow damage
03:37'37.710 Shadowy Necromancer's Shadow Bolt hits Shadowy Necromancer for 3460 Shadow damage
03:37'37.935 Shadowy Necromancer's Shadow Bolt hits Shadowy Necromancer for 3658 Shadow damage

About 22,000 damage (not to mention, threat) in 1 second. Pretty fun. Thats 22k damage that would otherwise gib a lone tank.

The problem would be their follow up Shadow Bolts. I think you can intervene out of range if your fast enough =)

I could theoretically reflect all 6 banshee casts too, but it's a bit tricky. Banshee Wail can also be reflected, although it's a bit less predictable. They seem to want to melee more often then the Necros. I wonder if I can reflect the debuff? Gargoyles strike (forgot name) can also be reflected.

In the previous Hyjal raid (06/27), total spell reflect damage was over 350k and im not even that good at it.

It shows up in WWS as Shadowy Necromancer attacking Shadowy Necromancer. They were the number two target of overall damage. They did more damage to themselves then they did to the pally tank

Yes you can reflect banshee's curses, but you would have to have the reflect up when they cast it which is both random and istant.

On a funny note, we have a rogue named Banshee in raid, Recount shown him as dead for 22 times :P

It's hard to time, but if you can pull it off it's awesome stuff. Completely solidifies aggro and helps with the wave DPS. The hard part, like you said, is surviving that second volley.

As I do it is to make sure I'm the first thing they will see (including totems). And as soon as I see them starting casting I put up spellreflect and start running backwards back into the raid asap, and I let my healers know on vent if I reflect many shadowbolts that I'm about to take a big spike dmg.

Thursday, July 18th.

185 shadow bolts reflected for a total of 530,000 damage.

What I did notice, is that the NPCs like to taunt the necros quite a bit. But AoEers and DPSers hardly took any damage. I only had problems on two waves.

First was when I messed up trying to kite all four necros to Jaina, and they got caught in SoC spam. It's doable with two because I can consistently land multiple SRs on the same Necro. You can LOS around Jaina's tower to get them all the way there. The other was a pre-mature fear that had necros scrambled all over the place, without any threat established by Aldyn (Pally MT) or I.

There was a few bursts of damage where I got out of range and low on health, but I had confidence heals would land in time (and they did). I found a way, in the alliance base, to LOS then necros and pull them into AOE range.

Heres a breakdown of necromancer damage done and number of hits (includes physical attacks).

Myzery 1,602,819 802
Shadowy Necromancer 530,861 185
Aldyn 188,586 83
Horde Grunt 86,591 45
Tauren Warrior 75,554 43
Alliance Knight 74,658 37
Wickedclaw 45,137 41
Krodor 32,705 13
Nooge 25,774 12
Fraile 24,125 8
Horde Headhunter 21,707 9
Snoopydoogy 19,792 6

Pretty top heavy with a huge majority of damage spread across the NPCs and tanks.

I also was able to SR the gargoyles 36 times for 20k damage, and the banshees 29 times for 41k damage.

Across the entire night, including bosses:
- Spell reflect reduced the damage the entire raid by about 4%.
- Spell reflect reduced the damage Myzery took by about 14%.
- Spell reflect did about ~120 dps, or about 1% of our total dps.
- Spell reflect, which is not tracked as the warriors damage in WWS, increased my total damage out (and resulting DPS) by about 43%.

I'm gonna have to try that one during our first Anatheron attempts tomorrow. I was under the impression that Spell Reflect only reflected the next targeted spell thrown at the warrior.

Crazy. :P

I was under the impression that Spell Reflect only reflected the next targeted spell thrown at the warrior.

That's how it's intended to work. However when multiple spells land almost simultaneously you can often reflect more than one. This is probably due to latency between the time the first spell hits you and the Spell Reflection buff being removed.
