Hi guys,

so we're gonna try Kael'Thas on the next days. What type of stuff should I wear?
First I thought that advoidance items were a better choice because the fight was quite long, but Effective Health should be a better option considering the amount of damage we have to deal with.
I can reach roughly 22k HP with full buff...with items such as Badges Gloves (Bonefist) or engineering trinkets/Darkmoon trinkets. I loose much advoidance of course with this set equipped.

What type of stuff do you use?

I guess it depends on who (and which weapons) you will actually be tanking. If you are on Kael'thas in Phase 4/5 you will need EH gear as he doesn't hit for hard but those fireballs and pyro's hurt even with the mace buff :D

If you're going to be tanking Kael in P4/5, sacrifice everything for HP. Soaking the pyros comfortably makes P4 much easier. When I was tanking the fight, I was around 22.5k hp buffed, but ended up using resilience gear to get to uncrittable...3rd chest ring specifically. However, my healers never commented that I was particularly hard to heal, even tanking two weapons in P2.

If you're going to be advisor / bird tanking, then look at a more balanced tanking set up.

I'm going to tank Kael Thas. I have 22k+ HP buffed, I must check my defense with this set.
I will try to tank non-hard-hitting weapons in P2 so that it wont be a pain to heal me. Thanks!

Well if with your set you've got alot of block value (my EH set does, i don't know about yours) then i'd suggest tanking the mace and shield because thats the first thing going down (mace) , it will open you up early on to generate some rage on some of the shield before it goes down. You will also want to be taking it down so you know you can grab it straight away and be ready at kael to tank p4/5. GL on this encounter, its horrible and i hate but it keeps you sharp.

We have focused Vashj last week (and killed her ^^) so I will try with Mace+Shield as you said. The 2H axe hits quite hard, even if it wont kill me I think I need too much heal so maybe that an offtank in advoidance set or a feral druid would be a better choice.
Anyway, thanks for the advice!

Ok so we made several tries yesterday.
We had no problem with the weapons, I picked up the shield, and we have killed them quickly with AoE.
We dealt with phase 3 quite easily, mainly beacause we were able to kill the weapons quickly.

Now the problem is the pyroblast. I have 23k HP, sometimes the pyro hits me for 22k, sometimes 25k, the difference is very important.
The raid leader decided that I had to use my shield on the first pyroblast, and use some cooldowns for the second (I have Fire Protection Potions, Nightmare Seeds, and my faithful Last Stand/Shield Wall of course).
I think I was one-shot by his spell just because I wasn't full life. Even if I use a Nightmare Seed, if I am below 20k HP, I will reach ~22k HP with Nightmare Seed, which seems to be insuficient.
I asked for a Power Word: Shield (~1800HP absorbed) but I did not had it.

So my question is simple, what is your "pyroblast sequence"?
This is what I did yesterday (and it did not work)

t=0 The Prince casts his Shield
I use the Phaseshift Bulwark
t=5 Pyroblast absorbed
t=5 A new Pyroblast is cast
I try to drink a Fire Prot Potion, use a Nightmare Seed
t=6 I release my spirit

Your advices are welcome guys.

If the Pyroblast is hitting you for 25k, you probably didn't spec Imp Def. Stance.

Pyroblast (http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=36819) can hit for up to 55000 base damage.
The buff (http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=36483) from the mace (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=30317) cuts this in half, down to 27500
Defensive Stance takes off 10% (24750)
Improved Defensive Stance is another 6% (23265)

If you are going to "eat" a Pyroblast, you need to be able to take up to 23265 damage and live.

The first Pyroblast will be handled by "using" the Shield (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=30314).

Your options for absorbing the 2nd Pyroblast:

Last Stand
Shield Wall
Greater (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=13457) / Major (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=22841) Fire Protection Potion
Nightmare Seed (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=22797)

The Pyroblast sequence happens every 60 seconds, so you will have to alternate between Nightmare Seed and Fire Potion as they are on separate 2 min cooldowns. When to use LS / SW is up to you but you shouldn't "need" them for the Pyroblasts if you have potions and seeds and neither one is already on cooldown.

On a "winning" pull (i.e. most of your raid is alive at the end of phase 3), you should only go through two Pyroblast cycles before entering phase 5, meaning you should only have to use one potion and one seed per pull.

Lastly, make sure you are using +30 Stamina food, are getting Improved version of Fortitude, MotW, Blood Pact and Commanding Shout if available. Blessing of Kings goes without saying.

Obviously your healers need to have you at full health by the time the Pyro lands.

Indeed I had changed my talents and I did not had Imp Def Stance last night :p
So I put 3 points in this talent, thus loosing Rage Managment and Imp Thunderclap, but for Kael'Thas fight it won't hurt.
Thanks for your advice, I will translate it and put it on my guild's forum, I hope I will be able to eat the next Pyro.

Ok so we killed him yesterday, I was not killed by any of his Pyroblasts, on any try. You just have to know exactly what do do with your buffs or with the shield.
First Pyro I used a Nightmare seed, so I had 24700 HP
Second Pyro I used the Shield

On the second sequence, the Seed was not up (still on CD) so I ate a Fire Resistance Potion, and use the Shield again on the second Pyroblast.

My former problem was because I used them as "Oh SHit" buttons, it was a bad idea, you just have to know what to do and when, stay concentrated, and it becomes really really easy.

Thanks to all
