Ok as far as I know 365 is the max effective resistance you can have.

I have heard a few ppl talking about having more than that.

My question is this:

Does haveing more than 365 resistance do anything for you?

Also:
Ive heard that how resistance works is, if you have 365 res. you will resist 100% of the attack 80% of the time. Is that correct?

It depends on what you are resisting, DD spells are partially resisted while binary spells can only be fully resisted or not resisted at all. For DD spells, i believe the max resistance is 75%. A 1000 pt hit with full resist would hit for 250. Im not sure how full resist works with binary spells, i would assume its a 75% chance to resist it fully. All the tanking resist fights are DD afaik.

365 is the max resist, this isn't theorycraft, it serves no purpose beyond 365.

This is very basic information, and very easily attained (more so than any theorycrafting, as it is posted in blizzards beginers game guide)

Resistances

The only thing not included in this guide, is how the resist chacne is affected by mob lvl, however a little common sense would tell you it worked like everything else(mob lvl*5)

The only reasons you would go past 365:
1) The mob debuffs your resistance. I don't think any actually do.

2) Planning for your Paladin/Shaman/Hunter to die and the loss of their aura. Resist gear gimps you in other areas, this is not a good idea. And it makes you look like a pessimist.

For mitigation fights, higher than 365 resistance will not hurt you directly, but indirectly, it might; are you sacrificing other stats for resistance that does you no good, or is your 365+ resistance simply a result of a few strong resistance items?

I posted my res sets in the appropriate forum under SSC. I think that where this question should have been placed in the first place. Sorry.

I thought that (at least pre-tbc?) it was tested and empirically shown that you actually needed res-cap + 1 for maximum resistance?

I've never heard of this EVER being mentioned before, and I've played WoW and actively read about theory and other information since the uh, original beta. So, I don't think this is accurate at all.

Even if that were true, the non-linear nature of resistance would make that a difference of maybe 74.5% average resistance instead of 75%.

High Astromancer Solarian does, but arcane resistance is no more required for that fight.
