Master Looter Woes! MY advice to you.

Long time reader, first time poster.

I'd like to take a second to share with you an experience I had in Karazhan last night, so the rest of you can avoid the same mistake.

Firstly, I am our Guild's Team B Main Tank, and having a 70 Shaman and multiple 60's I know the game quite well. Thanks to sites like this, in just 2-3 weeks, I've become a very well equipped piece of machinery :) (Cudos Berg!)
Anyways, last night during Karazhan on the way to maiden something happened. This was right before the pull.

A paladin who was NOT in the raid, said in Guildchat "Hey Rever (the Paladin IN the raid). Maybe Shard of the Virtous will drop for you tonight."

We pulled and killed maiden, and look what I found in the master loot box. "Shard of the Virtous" and "Cloth Healing Shoulders". So I link the loots, and of course the Paladin Rever goes nutz in Vent (not obnoxious nuts, just like ... WOW , Cool) and I link the loots in Guild Chat, and of course the rest of the guys are like... GRats, wow, I called it... etc.

Nevertheless, Now my attention moves to the healing shoulders... I loot the Shard of the Virtuous to Rever, and only then do I notice a /roll in Raid chat from the RESTO DRUID in the raid!

In summary, what a source of embarassment for me! Not even considering anyone else might ALSO need the mace, not to mention not even asking one way or another. I succumbed to all of the outside distractions and let them make me complacient and sloppy. Master looting is a HUGE responsibility, and I guess my advice to you is... no matter how many times you've done kara... no matter how bored you are, or distracted... take a second to step back and make sure you're seeing the whole picture clearly.

Now Part 2 of this started with me asking the Paladin Rever to roll anyways, and of course he LOST to the druid... so I opened a GM petition and within 2 hrs, there was a GM talking to me, the pally and the Resto Druid. I'm happy to report that as of this morning, Our RESTO Druid had a "one of a kind" Bind on Pickup in her mailbox.

SO! Save yourself the embarassment of my debacle.
You're a Main tank / Raid leader... Act like it. Pay attention, filter our the rest of the Garbage/Guild Drama distractions and WIN THE GAME for your team.

Team B MT as well. Done kara ~20 times now and was super bored at curator gearing up our guild "green"horns. T4 token was looted to a consistent shammy vs a casual rogue. Turns out shammy wanted it for offspec and I wasn't payin attention to what the tell said (just lookin at who sent me tells). LOL big embarrassment for me and had to work it out with GM's over the next few days. Rogue got his T4 though but I learned my lesson.

Reminds me of the time when I was running Molten Core. I was harassed and tired as accidentally gave the tier 1 warlock shoulders to a druid. A GM eventually saved me from this embarrassment but said that I had used my only chance to correct an error like this. Is this true? Do we only get one loot fix?

I very seriously doubt they keep records. I'm pretty sure there's no "once-in-a-lifetime" loot fixes; they simply say this to make people pay more attention and not use the GMs as a safety net when it comes to loot distribution.

Be careful however with chests and those kind of things you cannot award with Master looter (for example Majordomo or Four Horsemen chests). GMs cannot help with those kind of events, or at least they didn't helped us when someone accidentally ninjaed domo's ring.

PS.: Tell ur druid that mace is paladin/shaman. He can use Prince/Nightbane healer weapons more efficient ^_^

Well, back in MC days we had two master looter mis-clicks fixed by GMs. But then in BWL days someone mis-clicked Bloodfang Gloves, and a GM refused to help.

this makes me wonder if you can give a loot to someone else after...

for instance, something dropped for a shaman but there are no shamans in your raid group at that time and you have the shaman friend or guildie who needs it so you invite him and call a gm stating that you gave the loot to the wrong person

would that work?

I gave tier 4 legs to a paladin instead of the rogue who won the roll off. I felt horrible but they had tied in DKP so it was close...it wasn't as if I gave them to the completely wrong person. It fixed its self a few weeks later.

No. They do in fact check the mobs threat tables. If the player isn't on them then no loot for them.

The Item Specialists that these sort of petitions get escalated too can see every piece of information about the mob/kill. Pre-BC I used to lead pugs composed of members from the top guilds on my server to kill the green dragons and other outdoor raid bosses. Once when we had master loot on it bugged out and items could not be assigned to anyone. The GM forwarded my petition to an item specialist and this person was able to tell me every item that dropped, exactly who was in the raid when the mob was killed, the loot method being used, and even what was said in raid chat during the looting.

They log everything.
