In case you haven't seen it:

More armor than any shield until Mount Hyjal and a good amount of stamina as well.

5727 Armor
152 Block
48 Stamina
31 Resilience

I think I may snag one to use for a bit.

I use it, works great, simply because I have enrage (Not usually prot) and it works out great. no cool block values or anything, but the armor is nice.

Scratch that, I use the old one, and IT works great

That is really nice.

Well, because of talents (assuming toughness and shield mastery), it turns out to be a difference of 492 armor & 19 Block value (more shield slam damage & thus more threat).

Based around the theory of effective health posted in Cider's guides (I didn't actually do the math, just assuming based on looking at the stats) the difference in armor should give the Shield Wall the edge. Defense past 490 is just minimal avoidance gains. I really like the hit on the Aldori shield though just because its so rare in tank gear, but for 1875 arena points, the shield wall may become a pretty popular shield.

Again, I'm purely assuming that the shield wall has a edge, I'm not the greatest with math :P

just curious if anyone has crunched the numbers. Either way i am 2 weeks out from getting mine as it is far superior to anything i currently have access to.

I'll be running these numbers over next couple days.

Did you have anything other than sha'tar/coldarra in mind that might be more helpful to you? I don't need to run numbers to say the difference is huge between those two and this.

I know it is vastly superior to those just curious as to how much if at all better than the Aldori legacy defender. Looks to be better just not sure if the +hit can really be quantified in regards to this comparison. Will probably require 2 seperate calcs 1 for added threat and other for sheer mitigation, not sure though.
Right now my curiousity is mainly just that. I wont have access to the defender for a while and therefore am grabbing the shield wall in 2 weeks.

Well, prior to using the Shield Wall, I had the Shield of Impenetrable Darkness, although just looking between the two I already know that there is big difference between them. I already know that the shield wall will have more effective health than the Aldori Legacy Defender just by looking at them, its just a matter of how much more. It seems like it to comes down to more effective health on the Shield Wall vs the hit rating on the Aldori Legacy Defender.

The shield out of Hyjal here: http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=30889&locale=enUS;source=live

that thing has them both beat, but considering there aren't any shields out of SSC or Tempest Keep, its going to be either the Shield Wall or the Legacy Defender for a long time.

OK.

Should make life easier. I didn't write it, but there you have it. Use that and report what the results are, so I can be lazy and not put 4 numbers in a spreadsheet.

I've been an avid reader of as much tanking stuff as possible and basically I read a lot of ciderhelm's stuff and came up with the follow Calculator

http://www.tankingtips.com/effective-health-calculator/

I might take the time to make it look prettier in the future, but ultimately it does the job without making you download anything.

I don't really PvP, but if this shield is better than Gruul's, I might have to PvP. :P

Any conclusions on whether it's better or not yet?
